Plans for the Week
Folks,
I am planning to watch the Spike Lee movie Bamboozled with you this week. However, the film is 2 hours and 15 minutes long. This means we cannot watch it in a single class session. Therefore, I am going to show the first hour in class on Monday, and the second hour (plus a bit) in class on Wednesday.
We will discuss Bamboozled, and your reactions to the film — and how it relates to the reaction to the blackface performance on MBC (and the many other cases of racial parody in Korean media) — on Wednesday, and perhaps into next week.
In the meantime, for class on Wednesday, please read the following essay by James Baldwin, titled “Stranger in the Village.”
