Digital Fortress

Hi, do you like mystery books? I do. Especially I like Dan Brown and  Sidney Sheldon’s. So I was so sorry about Sheldon’s death, because I can’t meet with his amazing new stories no more. Anyway, today I want to recommend a book of Dan Brown. I think all of you know his book the Da Vinci Code, because it is so famous. I also liked it, but actually, I think the former book Angels & Demons are better. However the book that I like the most is his first book Digital Fortress. It is about a brain battle between NSA(National Security Agency ) whose job is bugging and cryptography and a programmer who stands upon people’s rights to keep their privacy. I couldn’t get a sleep before I finish the book, becuase it was totally suspenseful and stunning. I think the author is a brilliant genius. Even his epilogue makes me crazy about cryptography. I strongly recommend you to read Digital Fortress!

Our new family member.

Hi, do you like pets? Especially, a cat. I think most of you think cat is not cute but fierce and awful miser. Actually I also thought so, but my older brother brought a baby cat last month, and then I changed my mind. She was really really cute, and looks like a cat in boots in the movie Shrek 2. Anyway, she was afraid of everything at first, so she couldn’t get out of the room. However, now she owns the house, so our family can’t open the balcony door freely because she always ruins mom’s plants. Oh, you know what?  Cats evacuate the bowels only in their bathroom, and if they don’t evazuate when their bathroom is dirty. I was really surprised about that. Now a days, our family have fun to see our cat’s cute tricks.

I’m planning to travel to Macau.

Have you ever been to Macau or heard about it? It is located near HongKong, and known for the city that Oriental and Latin culture are harmonized, becasue the city was the colony of Portugal for a long time. Also, it is the one of the biggest and famous casino cities. I heard that Macau surpasses Las Vegas in scale. Actually, I wanted to to travel to Europe, but I can’t afford to do it, so I decided to travel to Macau for three days, which has both Latin & Oriental cultre. It is, so to speak, a substitutive satisfaction. I’ll go there with my best friend Eun-sun, and it is a first trip abraod for her and second for me. So, we worry that if we can travel safely or not, but still, we are very excited about the trip. Also, we plan to play some games in casino. Of course, we won’t spend a lot of money, but.. maybe… Haha, just kidding.  Anyway, I think it is good to have lots of and various experiences such as traveling many countries. Also, I can test if my English skill is improved or not. I’m really expected to have a wonderful trip.

Gord’s class

Hello, finally I’m going to talk about Gord’s class. First of all, I want to talk about his teaching goal. He told us that getting an A is not important. Important thing is to learn and  improve our writing skill. Next thing is his teaching style. If you are bored with the cramming  education, like just listening to the professor and memorizing his/her saying, Gord’s class will be fresh and good for you.  Gord has wit enough to concentrate us upon his class, and he induces us to participate in the class and discuss each other through like a workshop. In addtion, he gives us many and various assignments such as group blog, making a travel pamphlet, movie review, and so on. It could be a little pressure to you, but you will realize that your writing skill is improved at the end of the smester through the steady exercise. Accordingly, he gives us a certain feedback of our writing, so we could find our problems in writing and what we have to care about next time we write. Besides, he always tells us that revising is very important. As much as you revise your writing, the writing will get better and better. Oh, make sure that plagiarism is the worst thing in writing(actually in everything), and never be allowed.

I went to the Jam-sil stadium to watch a baseball game

Have you ever seen the pro baseball game at the stadium? I went to the Jam-sil stadium to watch LG game last saturday with my university friends. I live in Jam-sil, so I should have arrived at first, but I was  the latest arrival. Anyway, the game was Doosan VS LG, and we cheered LG team. Jam-sil was the home ground of both teams, but that day, it was regarded as Doosan’s home. So, we sat at the rooter’s seats for the away team. We were very excited by the enthusiastic atmosphere at first, but we quickly grew tired in the blazing sunshine. Even, our team got a shutout with flying colors. The final score was 9:0, and we didn’t feel so good about that. However it was really fun to chear the team and exchange yell with my friends. I want to go see the game again, and I hope that I could see the victory of my team then.

the photo exhibition of Robert Capa

Two weeks ago, my best friend Eun-sun got two tickets of the photo exhibition from her sister, and suggested  going there with her to me. Of course I accepted it, and went to the Seoul Arts Center to see the works of Robert Capa. Actually, I didn’t know about him and his works well, but I was excited that I could enjoy art.  He was famous for lifelike pictures of war. I could imagine and feel how the war was imminent and horrible from his works. Also I first knew that Robert Capa was intimate with Pablo Picasso and Hemingway.  I saw several pictures of them, and they looked very natural, comfortable, and happy. Through his fabulous works, I found that he was really talented photographer, so it made my heart hurt to know that Robert Capa was killed in the war. I also heard that he kept holding his camara until he was on the eve of death.  At the end of the exhibition, my friend and I could get a piicture of us as an event. It was really good experience.

The result of the KT contest is announced.

Do you remember that I wrote about the KT degital contents contest what I participated in? The result of it is announced. Actually it was announced more than one months ago, but I had a lot of project from my first major, so I wrote about it now. I was really nervous while I was waiting the result, and hoped the result would be quickly announced regardless of the result. Finally, it was announced. Our work was accepted, and we got the testimonal and a state-of-the-art cell-phone as a prize. However, it was the lowest prize. Se-ji and I were a little dissapointed about the result, but  it was our first try, so maybe we hav to satisfied with it, and try to make better work for next contest.  Anyway, Thank you for your voting for us.

the volunteer work.

Last sunday, I went to Sin-nae nursing home for old people to do the volunteer work. I had to do it to get a grade in the ‘spiriuality’ class, as you know. However, the mid term had just finished and I was really tired because of  it, so I regarded it as a bother. I was really worried about the work, becasue many friends told me it was a really hard work. What I did first was giving old ladies a bath, and I did it awkwardly, but as time went by, I felt more comfortable and could help old ladies took a shower. I also waited on at table, did a laundry, cleaned the room, and so on with my friends. I was tired but my heart was full. It was really good experience for me, not a bother.

Horrible shooting incident in Virginia Tech campus

I was really shocked when I heard the news that the criminal of the shooting incident in Virginia Tech campus was Korean. I can’t understand that why he committed this. One person shoot more than sixty people, even they were his friends. It was really really horrible. It was more shocking that he said “Hi, how are you?” to the professor just before he shoot him, and the main reason why he commited this was his ex-girl friend. As well, I heard that the police didn’t cope with this incident right after the first incident in domitory. Of course it is the criminal who was most guilty, but if they coped right away, maybe they could save 60 victims. I think the U.S. law about the possession of a gun should be more strict. It would be remembered as the worst shooting in U.S. history. I pray for the repose of the deceased, and I hope that American people don’t think that all Korean people like him.

Serious problem of copycat crimes

I think the copycat crime is a  serious problem of Korea now.  There are some bad people who commit a crime taking a leaf from the movie’s M.O.(modus operandi). I used to worry about this problem whenever I saw crime movies, but I didn’t expect someone would actually do that. However, unfortunately it happens in Korea now for real.  Do you know  the movie ‘Enemy of the Public’ ? I saw it several years ago, and I remember that was really cruel. It was a story about one outrageous murderer who commit murder without provocation, and he even killed his own parents.  His killing method was too atrocious  to look at, so it was a great shock to me that there was a murder those M.O. was similar to this movie. As well, child kidnapping which is a copycat of the movie ‘Geu Nom Moksori(His voice)’ happens a lot lately.  I can understand why they can’t distinguish what is for real and what is only for the screen. Maybe our society isn’t matured enough to accept those kind of movies.
