We meet new people every day in our lives. However, it’s true that as individualism is overflowing and the number of crimes are increasing, people always try to be cautious. On that account, it is important whether to be more open or cautious when we meet new people. I believe that we should be more open to new relationships because humans are social creatures, others will also open themselves to us, and when we be too cautious we judge others before we get to know them.
First of all, humans can not live alone. They have relationships with other people and form social communities. This means they are social creatures. For this reason, one should always make an effort to be open to other people. This attitude can be one of the foundations of building and maintaining a good relationship.
Also, if we open ourselves to other people, they will open themselves to us. Humans have a psychology of reciprocation. This rule can be applied to the relationships between human. Therefore if we nicely show our free-hearted mind and honesty, others will react and naturally open themselves to us. The more open we are, the closer we have relationships with others.
Some might say that we should be more careful with others because they think we can be deceived or harmed. I do not agree with this. If we always have a sense of alarm against other people, we would lose faith with them without any reason and shutdown ourselves. This makes us judge other people before we get to know them. It can also lead us to suspecting innocent people because of our bias. This is more dangerous.
I think being careful and having a sense of alarm has different meanings. It is good to be careful by trying to care for others, paying attention to them. However having a sense of alarm makes us look too stubborn. If we are too cautious we can not only trust others but other people will not trust us either in return. I think we need to be more open when we meet new people because this attitude supports our relationships.
