My life was like tasteless beer. Unlike the other enthusiastic students, I was far less interested in my life and what I was going to do with it. Moreover, I hardly ever had dreams, goals and intentions of going to school. Even the university was where I met people and hung out with them. What was surprising is that I didn’t even know my life was that much meaningless, because I never had a chance to make myself think about it. Flat beer is just a perfect word to describe my life at the University, just before I came across someone. In 2008, when I was 25 years old, it was just one of those days. I was studying aimlessly only for the exams. On that particular day, I was copying someone else’s notebook to fill in what I missed while sleeping in the class room. Then, I saw a very little young female student by chance, and assume that she was in her first year at the CUK. As far as I am concerned, she changed my life for two reasons. First, she gave me an elementary of a surprise by speaking English very fluently with native English speaker’s level of pronunciation. Nowadays, it is fairly common to see people speaking English, and no longer surprising for many people, but it was very shocking enough to make me have more interest in English myself. In addition, she also got me thinking about my meaningless life. For instance, I was very much comfortable and satisfied with my life and really busy only hanging out with friends. However, all of these are not quite related to studying or doing something productive. This means that I didn’t seriously think about my life before I saw her. After I saw her, not only did I become more interested in English but also changed the way I live, think, and see. I started to have broad sights and see things differently. So now I have become more tasty beer which has an enthusiastic attitude about everything I need to deal with in a daily life. Second, I would like to say the same thing but with a different point. it is related with the Korean society. Since English is becoming more and more important and has been playing a key role in business and many other fields, it is almost imperative that almost everyone learn English. Every company requires students to be proficient in English, even if their jobs are not directly related with English. As a further matter, I have never seen exams and interviews without English. Thus, it was fortunate that I stumbled on the young female student and was given such a nice chance to drag myself into the English world and change my life. Having said that during the meaningless life time at the CUK, firstly, she got me thinking about my life and secondly, made my life changed by showing me very proficient English skills. These are the two reasons that she influenced me and my life in an optimistic way.
