Plastic Surgery

Nowadays, people really think that their appearances are important, and this is proved by the fact that everybody gets a plastic surgery. When I look around my friends and acquaintances, at least one out of five has received plastic surgery. Most of the people are used to it and thinks this is not a problem. So do I. By plastic surgery people can gain confidence in themselves, and I think everybody has the right to choose whether to receive it or not as long as they can afford it. Also, if plastic surgery is banned a I believe a black market will be formed and there will be more serious problems.

First of all, people can gain self confidence through plastic surgery. Nowadays the society considers people’s appearances, even when getting employed. That is why people have high pressure on their looks. And every person has a complex of their appearances. If they could get rid of it through plastic surgery, nobody would hesitate to run the risks. Plastic surgery can surely give confidence to one’s life and make them live a new one.

Secondly, even though plastic surgery is dangerous or costs a lot of money, people have the right to decide whether to do it or not. People have the freedom to do whatever they would like to do as long as it does not harm others. In this view, if plastic surgery gives positive influences to one’s life, and one wants to receive it, it doesn’t matter at all.

Finally, if a law that bans plastic surgery is set, this will lead to forming a black market. For an example, the law that bans marijuana makes people carry on transactions illegally. Plastic surgery is the same. The more they try to place plastic surgery under the ban, the more problems will arise by trying to receive plastic surgery illegally.

I believe that everyone has the right to improve one’s self esteem. And this could be done through plastic surgery in some cases. Plastic surgery has positive aspects, and if they try to ban it, problems will surely occur more than before. Plastic surgery can not only improve one’s appearance but also the quality of one’s life.

After watching “Modern Family”

Have you ever heard about a American sitcom “Modern Family”? Modern Family is an American television comedy series. The series has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series twice so far. On January 10, 2011, Modern Family was renewed for a third season. I guess this sitcom was named by the complex family relationship. This comedy series is stories about a family. There is a grand-father, Jay Pritchett, who is very rich and he remarried with a spanish woman who is very sexy, gorgeous, young and having a son with ex-husband. Jay has a daughter and a son. Son is Mitchell Pritchett and he is a gay, so he living together with his boyfriend breeding adopted baby born in Vietnam. Daughter’s name is Claire Dunphy. She married with Phil Dunphy so between them, there are three kids Haley, Alex, Luke Dunphy. A glance at them, they look more sane than their Jay’s family or Mitchell’s, but Dunphy’s also very unique family with the teenager kids. This family shows all the recent problem in US, so I think the name, Modern Family, is having satirical wit.

I heard this sitcom has gained in popularity in US. At first, I felt some cultural differences during watching Modern Family. Korean society is not that frank, actually, very conservative to gays, remarriage, adoption or something like those sensitive issues. I felt uncomfortable with the family relationship of Modern Family. However, after watching the first episode of season one, I got into the drama, so these days, I watch it everyday. Then, what is the attractiveness of this sitcom to make people get into it and get popularity?

There is no any special situation like doing something crazy in this comedy series. Also they don’t use sound effects like canned laughter. This sitcom’s mood is just very calm and quiet. However, it makes people laugh by their conversation or the interview scene. Modern Family started working on the idea of a family being observed in a mockumentary style show. Thus the fictional characters talk directly into the cameras during many situations. Also the characters talk to each other straightforward and I like it. For example, In the 23rd episode of season 2, the son give a mask of Phantom of Opera to the stepfather, Jay, whose face became ugly by getting a botox injection telling that “This stuff always makes bad-looking men look tight”. This scene made me laugh.

However, I think the secret of popularity of this sitcom is humanity. Of course, other many sitcoms have something special making people laugh, but Modern Family remind people the human love too. In the 23rd of season 2, Alex Dunphy had to fix the script of her speech which could make people uncomfortable by accepting advice of older sister, Haly, and she gave the changed speech to audiences. And for not to be late for the speech of daughter, the father and mother rolled down from downhill. Through this scene, I could feel the humanity and at the same time, it made me burst to the laughter. If Haley and Alex were not family, Haley wouldn’t mind her sister’s business. Alex and Haley always have some conflicts each other, but at last, they made a moving result. Modern Family always make the last very moving and beautiful. I think this is the attraction of Modern Family.

Is there any relationship closer than family? Although, even they were born in other family, they are gays or nerd, they are “family” so they accept and understand their differences. However complex and many conflicts they have, I could feel that family is always warm and lovely home place through “Modern Family”.

Three reasons why Korea has bottom of happiness level

There are no people who don’t want to obtain happiness. but there are many ways to obtain it and the criteria for happiness also various. Especially Korea has beautiful nature and well public and high GDP level. These are very good condition for their nation, Korean, but Korea’s happiness level is bottom in the world. It is somewhat contradictory. There are three reasons why Korean shows this weir situation.

First Korean’s ‘Comparison culture’ striped of their happiness. According to research, Korean has strong ‘Groupism’. Where is me, where is my position in this group is more important than who am I. So when they felt happy instantly asked themselves how I am happier than others. And then, if they are less happy than other they depressed. In my experience, when I was middle school student, I got good grade so my mother praised to me but after a few minutes, my friend got a higher grade than me, mother didn’t smile at all.

Second Korean doesn’t let them happy. Even though they have own their house or car, they said I’ll be happier when I get bigger house, nicer car. Even though they become manager, they said I’ll be happier when I become president. Of course, there is no limit to people’s greed. But Korean can’t enjoy their present happiness, they want more and more so they are always felt lack of something. Sometimes I want to talk to them as ‘enough is enough’

Third Korean seems they forget their ultimate purpose of life, Happiness. People’s aim of all their activities is happiness. But often, they confused means with end. Most of the Korean high school students want to go to top 3 universities in Korea to get a good job that earn much money. And it is for success and it is for happiness. however they studied as go to university is only their goal. So some students who failed university entrance exam suicide. There are many ways to happiness but they forget this is just means, and depressed about just they failed.

Happiness depends on people’s mind. It is very relative value so it is not good idea estimate happiness and attitude about it. But I think, Korean didn’t enjoy happiness which they called it is happiness. Even they missed what they really want and overlooking. Korean should take time to stop and think about what they really want and enjoy just few minutes.

English Lectures : a must or an obstacle?

Everybody knows the fact that English is important. That is why more and more colleges recommend English lectures even though the subject is not related to English. However people are arguing wether this is beneficial to college students or not. I also have several international relationship English lectures which are taught by Korean professors. To my experiences, English lectures are ineffective and only stresses out both professors and students.

First of all, English lectures make the students confused, There are so many technical terms, and this make the students have a hard time following the class. My double major is international studies, and in my political economy class, the professor who is Korean does a lecture in English. We have a thick book which is also in English. However the professor makes a hand out every class. This is a abridgement of the textbook. This means even the professor knows that the students don’t understand the lecture and the book. The thick book in English is just symbolical. Nobody actually reads it carefully. English lectures may look in some way ‘dignified’, but it just causes misunderstandings.

Students also get bored and rarely pay attention, because they can not keep up with the class. This messes up the atmosphere of the class, and makes the professors lethargic. Because English is so important I believe enjoying English is also important. However English lectures just make students lose their interest not only in English but also in their majors.

Korean professors also have difficulties preparing the lecture. They have to know about what they are teaching of course, but to prepare it in English is not easy. If there is a professor who is not that fluent in delivering his or her lecture in English, there is no use about it. This just makes the professors stressed out and the students confusing. Also if all lectures are in English, professors would have to be qualified with their English skills, and this will put more pressure on them.

There is no reason why English lectures should be carried out. In my opinion, the school has to expand courses like English conversation class, English debate class and make them mandatory. This will make students improve their practical English skills. These courses should be taught by native speaker professors, so that students will not be confused in pronunciation and will not misunderstand the content of every course. Students will not only improve their English, but this will also draw their interests in English.

English lectures show that universities are forcing students to learn English. I believe first, they have find a way to make students interested in English. Then students will try to work by themselves, because they know best that English is required in Korean society.

Korean soccer player in EPL

Korean soccer player in EPL
Nowaday, korean soccer players who go into English Premier League(EPL) gradually increase. It is circumstantial evidence that ability of players greatly are improved compared to just some years ago. But the stage is very difficult for most players yet. Exept Ji Sung Park most players lost opportunity to compete in games and usually warm the bench. Why didn’t they adjust to the EPL as Korean player?

Firstly, Korean player should train speed oriented tranning in order to adapt to EPL. tempo of EPL is more fast than that of K-League. Feature of K-League is that play mainly with organizational power and stamina, but feature of EPL is that play mainly with speed ability.

Secondly, Korean player should study hard English. Dong Gook Lee, who had been on Middlesbrough FC, had had a difficulty in communicating coach and other teammates. And he felt all along. This is the most reason that Korean players could not adapt the stage. These reasons cause to greatly decline the players’ performance and communication between coach and player is very important in order to improve organizational power.

Thirdly, Korean player should leave a good impression while they have the chance.
EPL is the best stage that most players would like to go into that among many clubs. So each clubs definitely has had its share of great international players. And each players in a team fiercely compete to survive in order to solidifying his place.

EPL is not only have the best player, but also make an difficulty in adjusting. But most successful players usually overcome many difficulties by studying English, training as EPL style and maintaining the best condition in order to hold a golden opportunity. Like this, Korean player sufficiently have ability to succeed in EPL. In conclusion, Korean player should make a constant effort in order succeed in EPL.

women’s exposure fashion in Korea society

When I walk to along the pass in recent, I can commonly see the exposure fashion of women like short skirt and sleeveless shirts. That begun to catch on just about 4 years ago. The fashion was lead by only a few entertainers initially, but now lots of women wear the cloths. So it becomes a fashion new generation in many women. But old people seem to have negative aspect to women’s short skirt. Why they have ambivalence about just a fashion? Is it just difference of value between women and old people? I assure the ambivalence is result from in history.

To begin with, our ancestors are considered about women’chastity and virginity in Chosun dynasty. When women went out, they even covered their face with a cloth. This is reason why Confucianism is deep rooted in the era. old people grew up with watching and learning this Confucianism. So they are embarrassed by the shocking fashion because is greatly different between their experienced life and present life style. This reason is one of ambivalence.

Another reason is that father generation experienced totalitarianism in Jeong Hee Park, Doo Hwan Jeon. Park and Jeon pressed people as single policy through media and newspaper. But there were not personality because of fear to regime. So our father generation has disfavored and avoided different people or things with them. As goes this awareness, they yet have wariness shocking new fashion style of this generation as different things with them.

In conclusion, our ancestors and old people have experienced exclusive society as culture and tradition. So it does not surprise thing that they have disfavor impression to this generation’ life style. between each generation, there need proper harmony in order to accept and respect each generation’s life style.

Is it right right a boycott in michel food in chatolic univ?

Lots of universities try to sell foods throughout private business. Same our univ. But many students have
had complain from It begun. So our student council sometimes some demands that improve tasty food and
more cheap. But sides of michel food did not accept their demands at all. company of michel food should
accept their demands as customer.

The first reason is that students have the right to have more delicious and cheaper food. The students is
people who just learn and study in univ, who not a make money. And all of students also aren’t well-off.
So students who pay tuition shold have a right more delicious and cheaper food.

The second reason is that many foods in michel essentially does not fill the bill. Every students know
that sides of michel ask an exorbitant price as seeing side dish. For example, from composing a meal in
michel, a little anchovy, sea mustard soup except meat, Kimchi and haem. Please think the added price.
Is it really fills value of 1000 won? Putting aside added personnel expenses, we have had a meal as
exorbitant price.

The third reason is that price of michel food gradually rose and flavor of michel food illed in compared
with another private business which delegated in our univ 3 years ago. In my oppinion. this is the most
reason why student council launch a boycott. There price rose 1000 won in compared with 3 years ago. To
make matters worse, their flavor is the worst. no matter they retain the most close distance to
students, students don’t want to have this bad food.

Company of Michel food have a duty that provide food with more quality and nutritious. And It is an
inseparable relation between the company and students because the company would failed, if our students
didn’t sell the meal. So there need to have proper adjust the price and flavor between students and
company. In conclusion, company of michel food should properly accept their demands as seller.

Luck is as important as effort in success.

Is success made by only efforts? We are thought that when we were young. But as we grow, there were opposite situation. When I was high school student, one of my friends is very good at math. Unfortunately, math exam in KSAT (Korean Scholastic Aptitude Test) was very easy so many most of people get as high score in math. So his good head for mathematics give him any advantage. In my friend’s experience, luck is as important as effort.

Many well-known success people are lucky guy. One of them is Obama who is the president of U.S is lucky guy. Of course he is smart, and has good leadership and his efforts made him as first African American President. Furthermore his appearance is very fresh to Americans who were sick of the Bush administration. Actually Americans want to wind of change and Obama is right person to their desire.

Luck is not bad thing or rather not all luck is bad. Someone said luck makes people lazy. Yes. If you want luck came to you and miraculous you did what you can’t do without any efforts, it is just miracle, there is no moved story that didn’t impress yourself or others. Luck which I mean makes your success complete. For example, if you did success in invent very useful thing to our life. But you don’t have much money to spread it. Then someone who appreciates your invention and your talent is appeared in front of you. What a luck it is.

Luck is not coming by itself. “The harder I practice, the luckier I get.” One of the most successful golfers Gary Player said that. “Formula for success: Rise early, work hard, strike oil”. J. Paul Getty who founded the Getty Oil Company said. What is the common thing among these quotes? They try to work hard and then luck is coming.

‘Heaven helps those who help themselves’. This proverb was used to make people work hard. It is right. But I add more that if you try hard as heaven is moved, heaven give you a chance that let you get more success. I call this chance as luck. Effort is vital element to success but luck make success perfect.

Is ID card for verifying or Providing our Information?

As time goes by, it is going to emphasize the personal information. Because of that, some people are arguing that our ID card system has a problem. In the U.S, people bring only drivers’ license as their ID card. Only name, address and birth date are written on there. It is enough verify themselves. However, in Korea, our ID card system has several problems; too many unnecessary information is written, there is a serious possibility that our information can be spilled, and there are too many kinds of ID cards.

First, on out national ID card, our name, address, social number, picture and finger print are printed. When we need to verify ourselves, do we need all of the information which are printed on the card? I think too much of information is opened. If we lose our ID card once, people who get mine can know all about me. I strongly think name, picture and birth date are enough to verify ourselves.

Also, when we lose our ID card, because all of our personal information is printed on the card, if people who get my ID cards think in the negative way, he can abuse it. He can disguise other people and use other people’s information to fraud and deceive other people. Because too many information is printed on just one card, there is a very big possibility to be abused.

Last but not least, we have several kinds of ID cards. For instance, in the U.S, they use the drivers’ license as an ID card. Also, they have passport, so when they go abroad, they can bring just passport. However, in Korea, we have many kinds of ID cards. Even though some of them are not allowed as an ID card, they surely have the same number of information on them like certificates. We have national ID card, drivers’ license, passport and other certificates which have personal information. I think there are too many ID card. Because of that, Koreans do not care if they lose one of them, of course, including me.

The Korean government should think of budget. Making ID card is one of budgets. If we reduce the number of ID cards or make them simple, it will be more effective. Also, the government have to make an effort to teach people to regard ID card and personal information as a important thing.
