When we see children who are growing up, we usually say that being plump and chubby is very praise for children. In my case, I have very chubby cousins. However, I have never thought that they have possibilities to be obesity and they may have heath disease related to obesity. For me, it does not matter how plump or fat they are. However, it is not always good. Even though plump kids are so cute and pretty, we need to be careful to being obesity for them and also, we need to prevent them from obesity following these points; regarding obesity as a disease, life circle, and desire eating habits

There are many obesity people and the number of them is going to be more and more. Especially, obesity causes some serious disease such as diabetes. The most serious and important thing is that obesity is going spread to children. We usually think that weight and fat will be changed into being tall. Because of that, from long time ago, we regard obesity kids as just cute kids. From now on, children obesity is not just obesity. We need to regard the obesity as one of serious diseases.

People think exercise is very lack for children, also people put an example that they do not like to walk and they want to play computer games or watch TV. Also, after school, most of the students go to educational institutes and study there. In other word, they do not have time to exercise. Many parents put their kids to study more than other kids. I think the parents are stealing children’s time and make them fat.

The reason why there are so many obesity adults and kids is that their eating habits. They usually eat fast food and not fresh food because fast food is much cheaper than fresh fruits and vegetables. I think another problem of their eating habits is can foods. American people go to a grocery store once two weeks to a month. Therefore, they have a habit to buy something a lot once. At this point, it is too hard to buy fresh foods because it is easy to be spoiled. For that reason, they usually buy can food. Can food have a lot of high calories. It is a reason that kids are going to be fat and obesity.  

To prevent to be obesity for children, we need to teach them health eating habits. After we teach them, we have to give them a chance to think about their bodies rather than not feeding high calorie food. If we do not feed high calorie sweet food, they will crave to eat that kind of food more and more. After that, they will not control themselves. If we give the chance to them, it may take long time, but it is the most useful and smartest way to care about them.

A few weeks ago, one man experience very strange thing. One day people called him as ‘ Be damned to you’, but when he woke up next day people called him as ‘sacrificial lamb’. Just in one night he became a pitiful man from bad man. He is not the fantasy character he is real man and very famous entertainer in Korea. He has fallen under suspicion of tax dodging, when this news was spread, his other property-related things are revealed too. But did we have the right to reveal their private life? Did they have the responsibility to show even their private things to viewers?

         To answer that question, it is important to define who is ‘public figure’. because someone maintain that entertainer is public figure so they have to show their private life. Actually, according to law, entertainer is public figure. But it is limited certain very famous entertainers and the boundary between famous and unfamous is not clear. So famous is not the proper criteria to define public figure. The first thing to consider is authority. We give politician authority which is difficult to change. But we didn’t give entertainers authority but give them a love which is very changeable. So they are not public figure but just people who make other people fun.

         Before they are famous or influential entertainers, they are just human being who has the right to protect their live. We as a viewer don’t have the right to enter their life and force them to what they should do. Someone said they can become famous and get more money because of people who love them, so the demand of viewers is reasonable. Then if you get much money and become famous thank to other’s help. Then you have to notice your whole life even private thing? You do that?.

Of course, they are very visible and their behavior or thought are very influential. So they should really careful about what they do or what they say. But viewers are mistake that they are not character who is made and act as character not themselves. Actually viewers hope entertainers do what they did in media as very adorable and gentle. however when they are not match with your wish, you estimate them with very strict moral standard. It is very unreasonable.

People thought that public figure has responsibility to live very integrity than the general public. It is right, but why they have to do? Because they authorized by people and people have the right to monitor them. but entertainers is not given it. Therefore although they become famous because of viewers so they should live up to viewer’s expectation, people as a viewers don’t have the right to step in to their private life.

According to Robert Zajonc, social psychology in U.S, mere repeated exposure of stimulus can make improvement of attitude about that stimulus that called ‘mere exposure effect’. And we use this theory in daily life. If there is person who we like, we walk around him or her for notice our existence to them and appear frequently for familiar to them. How about advertisement? Some ad so terrible to understand and music was strange too. But see or listen repeatedly, at one point, we realize that we hum that ad music. It can be applied to ‘exposure of Asian to U.S media’ and give good guide how can we do for break their prejudice.

As ‘mere exposure effect’, exposure of Asian in U.S mass media is better than not showed in media. If Asian exposure repeatedly, other ethnic group make familiar mind of Asian like this ‘oh, I know him/her, I saw them in drama before’. Of course there are many routes to know about Asian but mass media is one of them and effective route that impact on many persons with small effort (compare to impact) at anytime and anywhere. Even there are people who don’t know the existence of Asian before penetration of mass media in individual. Negative attitude or prejudice can be made at least by recognizing about thing.

Some people said if Asian continuously act as a ‘bad men’ in U.S media, it is better than not appear in media.  It is fearful that prejudice of Asian can be fixed by continuous exposure. Of course it is true, if there is no chance to change Asian actor or actress role in media. But as we see many media program, Asian role was changed and has been changing. Not all Asian was described as gang or grinder or have non profession job. Asian can be a doctor, career woman, important assist of hero. Still we can find understanding about Asia culture and we hardly find Asian main character. But we can’t deny change, include movie or TV show or other fields .

However, ‘exposure effect’ also has weak point that we should consider. Target must have a neutral mind to something or somebody. In this respect, to other ethnics in U.S, Asian people’s images are not good, actually has been showed as ‘bad’. So repeatedly exposure of that image can be fixed as some people worrying. That is our mission we tying to.

Exposure more often is not the one thing we should do. But it is sure that if anyone knows something is here, there is no chance to change the negative image or wrong stereotype about something. So it is important to notice that Asian American is here. What their role in media is next thing what we should consider. Fortunately, there is possibility that future generation of other ethnics will have more positive attitude to Asian. Because today’s generation do their best to give them a new and proper understanding and image about Asian, through exposure of more and more even very small part and small things.

     I think everyone wants to be a successor in their life without exception because nobody wants to be a loser. However, the criteria of being a successor or loser depends on the people. For someone, success is just being happy and satisfied with own job or life or companion or something, but for someone, success can be some huge goal in their life like being a CEO or president or saving all poor abused animals or children or something. Success’s definition and meaning are all different because we are all different persons. This means we have different desires. We should understand other people can have different goal in their life and respect that. Thus most important trait for success is “mind”, because there are no criteria for success and everyone has different desires, also real success in one’s life is just being happy.

     First, there are no criteria. Who can judge whether someone’s achievement deserves to be called success or not? In society, there are superficial criteria on success, so people usually consider famous figures or rich people as successors. However, it is a just superficial success by definition. Those sorts of people can be successors too, but if they are not happy and satisfied with their personal life, are they really successor in their life?  Although many people think those people’s achievement is better one than others’, the criteria of success are different by people, so this cannot be judged by other people, just depends on their minds.

     Second, everyone has different desires in their life, so success can be defined differently, thus this cause the different criteria of success by people. Is other’s success also seems to success to me? Or mine can be always considered as success by others? No, it could be or not, because everyone’s desires are different, so the goals are all different.

     Lastly, I think the most important value of success is happiness. As mentioned before, everyone has different desires, so there are no criteria of success. Then, why all people desire differently? It is because people feel happy when they do what they wan and the thing they want to do is all diffrent. For example, Thomas Edison felt happy by failing for next great invention. He said Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. In his mind, although he fail, he knew the real success depends on his mind. Whatever you do, fail or achieve, if you are happy in the process, it can be called “success”

‘Twenty trillion won’. It is the budget of seoul city in 2010 and this is also budget of private tutoring in Korea 2010. Can you imagine the how many ‘0(zero)’ behind ‘20’ to twenty trillion? Huge private tutoring expenditure is one of big problems of education in Korea. because it is related to university entrance competition, which sometimes cause suicide of students. Actually the primary reason of excessive competition for entrance exam is University rank. Students want to go to top university to get a diploma which guarantees high income job in Korea. But Korean university rank has three problems that made people try to jump into the competition.

First the rank of university was formed by student’s exam score not by good education environment or education level. One of the elements which showed the influence of education is student number per professor. Actually some regional universities are better than capital universities in terms of it. That is, the criteria of ranking is not proper.

Second Because universities trying to take highest score students to be a top, students was formed a line by just entrance exam score. But Korea entrance exam is not appropriate requirement to choose the people who can get a college education. Of course there have been a lot of changed, but still to get a good grade in this exam, memory is the key factor. Criticize or creative important ability as a college students are not necessary to this exam.

Third Rank of university is rarely changed with seoul national university as the peak, ranking system was formed like pyramid. For 10years, from 1994 to 2003, rank of university which was formed by entrance exam score is little changes in of the top 30% universities. This guarantees the status of university regardless of education activities such as research activities.

Primary cause of university entrance competition is ranking of university and it is caused by unreasonable standard of ranking formed by student’s grade of entrance exam and is cause competition. We should break out of a vicious circle. It can’t make creative talent but just make competition which goal is competition.

Men in Korea have to enter the military for two years. It is their duty to do it. Some people say that they are sacrificing their two years, and need to be rewarded, while other says that it is their duty, and they should be proud of it. In my opinion I surely agree that they should receive some incentives. However I think military incentive policy which gives extra points to discharged soldiers is a discrimination against women, the disabled, and also among men.

First of all, military incentive policy gives restriction to the women and the disabled who enter the public service. As every body knows, the test to become a civil servant is fiercely competitive, and the borderline pass to the exam is extremely high. The reality is that people get to pass and fail by a narrow margin. However if the government give extra points for each subject, this will give a decisive effect on the results, and this is the same as excluding people who can not receive military incentives, who are usually women and the disabled. One research shows that when the military incentive policy is carried out, the percentage of people who pass the exam and don’t have extra points can actually decrease.

Secondly, the military incentive policy is a discrimination among men too. Military incentive policy does not have effectiveness, since the range of the application is too small. That is, only men who take the civil service exam or apply for specific companies like LG or Samsung can take advantage of this system because only public enterprises adopt this system. For the rest of discharged soldiers who do not apply for positions in public sector, there is no compensation at all. Consequently, even though the rest of men were equally discharged upon completing their military service, they cannot receive any compensation for their military service.

Last of all, the military incentive policy is just a symbolic policy because the military incentives is not enough to make up for the military services experience and it’s not a practical compensation. Some people might think that a symbolic policy is also important to us. However, the military incentive policy is an obstacle to make a practical compensation. Therefore, we need to get rid of the symbolic system and find a realistic policy which is based on the financial and spiritual compensations. Actually when the minister of national defenses surveyed the 1113 soldiers, most of the soldiers wanted practical policies such as financial aid, tax reduction, and so on. And only 37% of the soldiers wanted the military incentives

I am not insisting that we should not reward the discharged soldiers. I think the military incentive policy is just not the right system to give advantage to all the discharged soldiers. We should find other compensations that can encourage people to enter the military and raise the fighting spirit in the army.

People define success in different ways. Yes, success is objective and I want to talk about what I think success is. In my opinion I believe success is to follow one’s heart. There are so many kinds of obstacles that try to block people from success. However it depends on how one tries to get away or overcome it. There is a person I think that has succeeded. This person came out on a show called ‘Korean’s got talent’. His name is Che Sung-Bong He had a very tough life and gave influence to other people through his beautiful voice. The word ‘success’ means to achieve one’s goal, but to ‘huge success’ means to effect other people’s life and change it in a way, and Che Sung-Bong did this.

Marriage is important in that this can affect someone’s life fully. We live together with our wife or husband about 40 years or more if we marry. Then what is happy marriage life and what about our country’s marriage tradition? At first we have to know that there is no perfect in everything because we are human being. Happy marriage life is very individual but when we ask for “Are you happy with your marriage life?”, they usually say no. That’s because they were not prepared well about marriage. And our marriage tradition also gives one hand to in that our parents push to ideal marriage for parents not a child and making lack of experience without dating with other partner.

           These two effects are combined and give a fueled effect on marriage so we become not satisfied with our marriage. I’m not also experienced person. I can hardly say what makes you happy or not because it is very subjective thing but marriage should be well prepared before starting at least three things, money, parents support, attitude which prepare for loving other.

           Money takes very big part in our life. We cannot live without it if you are not bagger. So why money is important and has to be well prepared is much related with nature for surviving. If you don’t have any way to survive, marriage is important? It cannot be because you have to survive first. But we are more intelligent than this. We don’t usually satisfy about just eating and sleeping. We need more to enjoy our mental happiness. The way satisfying your wife or husband will be very simple if we bear in mind our basic nature. So for this reason you have to be well prepared the money at first for your happy marriage.

           There is one tragedy story in France, one handsome and beautiful couple’s story. They toughly and whole-heartedly love each other but by the destiny God gave to them they have to promise to meet again in the heaven. That is Romeo and Juliet story. You can see in this story that if parents is against each other how destroyable the thing will be. In this story they died but we cannot in real. So this is very natural to be admitted by two side’s parents.

           This is very ridiculous to have a marriage before learning to love other first. This is the first step and very basic step for every relationship. If you’re just stay in selfish and don’t care other, my question is, what marriage means to you? You can live whole your life without involved in other people’s life. The partner is not your mom or daddy. They can love you after confirming your firm love. So you have to learn to love other first.

           There are a lot of other reasons to happy marriage life. But I personally think that it have to be just mandatorily for the basic component. It’s not all marry your wife. Really tough one is in after you marry. Cheers.

         Compulsion is kind of impulse and impulse is some strong feeling or wish to do or have something. This is an instinct of human. There are many diverse compulsions and this depends on the situation, but the always same and obvious thing is that we should regulate our compulsion ourselves. If we can put it in right way, it can be called as a ‘desire’, but if it is put in wrong way, it can make unhoped result. Then how can we regulate our compulsion to be a good desire?

         First, it should be beneficial and have a good effect on ourselves in the long run, not in the short run. If we chase only to satisfy our instant compulsions, it cannot bring good result.

         Second, we should make the result be not only good for us but also for others. Just focusing oneself is not healthy. Sure, most of us always do something for ourselves, but if we consider other people more than us a little more, our society can be far more beautiful place.

         Third is understanding. We should understand that all people have different hopes so we should respect them. It is because all people are different so can have diverse urges. Not only my mind but others’ also important. This sort of conception can solve the conflict which is caused when people want different things.

         I would like to tell a short story for example. When I was young, I considered only my desires and didn’t care any others. Someday, my mother called my older brother and me and said “I have a fabric coin purse, I will give this you guys, who wants to have this?” I held my hand up high and shouted “me, me, I want it!” So my mother gave the purse to me. At that time my brother also wanted to have one, but he chose more high-leveled desire which gives up for young sister and makes her happy than instant compulsion. But I didn’t know at that time. And then my mother said again, “I have a carp key holder too, who wants have this? I think I should give it to your brother to be fair, Right?” The key holder was far more awesome than my fabric purse so I was sad. But I could not deny that was for my brother, because he didn’t just consider for himself but more for me, and in the long run it was better way because I became to know he was right.

         If we regulate our compulsion in positive ways, it can be a great energy for us. However ,if we use it in negative ways, there is not a holding us. The ways are very close and cannot be detached like the face and back of a coin, but the result is very different. It depends on us.

          Mandatory military service is “unavoidable duty” for Korean men, not a “choice”, so Korean men have to sacrifice for two years for nation with just about 80.000won as a monthly pay, without any other rewards. Adding extra points to discharged men was carried out since 1984 in only civil service exam. Still, in 1999, this policy was decided as unconstitutional by reason of violating women and physical handicapped people’s right to equality. However, I believe Korean government has to reward for Korean men’s sacrifice for the public covering those women and handicapped people. Also, the limit of application of adding extra points should be more expended. Some people who are against for this policy’s argument is that this system can be a discrimination for women and physically handicapped men, because they have no choice to go army and get the extra points. Thus they cannot get extra points so they will lose competition with men who fulfilled mandatory military service in society. However, I wonder if someone is questioned that, “Which is better for you? Getting extra points after fulfilling military service for 2 years or not going army and just studying and practicing for your career.” Everyone would answer “the latter” without exception. Nobody wants to go mandatory military service by force just for getting small extra points by government. Therefore, I disagree with their argument, because this cannot be discrimination for women and physically handicapped men, and also we should give a difference discharged men and not discharged men by military corruptions.

          Koreans has 4 national obligations that obligation of education, obligation of tax, obligation of labor and obligation of military. The Constitution of Korea imposes to all Koreans but only Men have obligation to serve in the military. Objectors about this system ignore this reverse discrimination of obligation of military and argue that the discharged soldiers are the main beneficiaries of the extra points. However, the law doesn’t exclude women. Then, how can this system be discrimination for women? Also, Korea is the only nation giving a privilege to women in conscript nations. In other conscript nations, men and women have about the same obligation to serve in the military. However, because Korean women are exempted in obligation to serve in the military, women get a job far earlier than men. While men fulfill duty for military service, women have the chance to study more or strike out in to the world. During the period when men stay in army, they sacrifice a lot. Restricting from place, privacy, behavior and even restricting of speech. If there are women attempt to enter a company, but failed to enter the company, she has to be blamed on her efforts, not the extra points.

          Secondly, we should make a difference between men who fulfilled their mandatory military service appropriately and men who don’t by military service corruption or healthy problem. The military service law states about the healthy man in the Korea, they should follow the duty on the military service. Men who can’t go to the military service by disability or health problem can’t be included in the extra point’s benefits. However, I think this is fair because they cannot go so other men should go instead of them and work for national security including those kinds of people. Then why is this discrimination for them? They worked for them, but also should give up rewards for them again? Besides, in civil service exam or employment of public enterprise, physically and mentally handicapped people are getting extra points. There is more 2years for women and there are extra points for men who don’t go army for healthy problem, then why is there nothing for men who sacrificed their 2 years for those public?

          Also, there are many military corruptions in Korea. Especially, the powerful and wealthy man’s kids don’t do the military service. Thus we should make some difference for men who fulfilled it appropriately. For example, not long ago Mc-Mong who is famous Korean hip-hop singer’s military service corruption was the biggest problem in the society. The current military service law states that a person with nine molars missing is deemed unfit for service. So He had on purpose about in a tooth extraction to be a civil service man, not go to the army. We can see lots of celebrity who did a civil service. In the truth, it happens not only in the celebrity but also in the upper class’s kids. Thus we should give some difference between those people and discharged man.

          I am not arguing only for giving difference for discharged men. Because there are so many damages mentally and physically in our obligatory military service, we should treat their right for rewarding the harsh 2years. All Korean young men should get intensive training for our national security and for us. We should proud of them. Then, Why is adding extra points for them unfair? Also, According to a research, over the 80% of citizens agree with giving extra points for discharged men. In this vein, I firmly believe that adding extra points for men who fulfilled their obligatory military service appropriately should be brought back in our society and be carried out. Also, I insist the extension of this system not only in civil service exam, but also in employment of public and private enterprise.
