Cat is Friendly or Horror?
As you know, there are many superstitions related with cat in the world, and those are different. For example, ancient Egyptians worshiped cat. They thought cat was mysterious and valuable animal. But can we think cat as friendly animal in Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat”?
Korea have superstitions about cat. Actually all story has not the same point of view. But the most people will agree that cat is unlucky, horror, and cunning animal. Then many old stories affect this superstition. For instance, several years ago, there was a TV program . The name of the program was home of a legend, and it broadcasted fear legends of Korea. One day, I watched a story connected with dog and cat. Its story was that a brave doa save its master against monster cat. As this old story, I also thought cat was quite horror.
But, my thougth about cat changed, since I raised a cat. When I was a middle school student, I had a chance to get a baby cat for free. I had uneasy feeling, but I was attracted two points “free and baby”. So I got the baby. After the day, My bad feeling about cat perfectly chaged. Over the time, I felt the baby was very cute, love, and clever. Above all, this animal was very clean. At that time, I raised a dog before I got a cat, and I was suffered the wild and dirty dog. My dog alwasy made my room from neat to mess. So I really liked the point of clean. Since I raised two pets, I sometimes compared the two. I even became to like more cat than dog. One more thing! Have you ever sleep with cat? It was very cozy and fuzzy. I especially liked the unique sound of cat. I can’t forget the sound until now.
I realized that i was captured the superstition. I just decied cats were horror and cunning animal before I experienced that one. I wasn’t superstitious, but I was dominated these things unconsciously. So I felt newly superstition was pretty powerful and afraid. It made us to be captured a prejudice. We will be cautious about this unconscious power.
