What do you think about eating dogs?
Many Koreans often go to eat Boshintang ,a soup made from dog-meat, on the bok-nal(the hottest day in summer), and it has always been known as a dish that helps blood circulation and increases energy.
Although I don’t like dog meat, I am supporting for eating dog meat. Eating dog meat is Korea’s own inherent food culture, which has a long history. “According to the record, Korea has a long history to have eaten dog meat from the era of Sam-kug(three kingdoms BC 57∼AC 668) and so there are numerous languages proverbs, and customs re-lated to the dog meat. “ (Dog Meat Eating History and Culture in Korea, Young-geun,An) . In the past, our ancestors usually ate dogs to get protein, because they couldn’t eat other animal like cows or pigs. Cows and pigs are essential to do for a living and they are valuable possession. Until now, many Koreans follow the culture. One of the reason why some foreigners criticize our eating dog culture is how can eat your lovely pet you raised. Dogs are raised separately in accordance of their usage (pets or meats), and Koreans rarely eat their pets. Eating cultures must be different because of a country’s surroundings or history. Every country has special favorite delicacies. For instance, the French think horse meat and snails are special foods, the Chinese eat monkey brains. We don’t eat horse meat, snails, monkey brains, but we don’t condemn those who eat them. Each country has its own food custom, so we have to accept them as is.
