My Big Mistake

   Last week, I had a chance to voluteer at AISFF – Asiana International Short Film Festival. That is why I couldn’t attande the classes for a week. My volunteering work was a translator for directors who were invited to the festival for their films. I really had a wonderful time with various directors, but I made a pretty big mistake while I was translating English to Korean.

   During the festival, one man came to me and asked me to translate. Then, he said, “I’m from Israel MBC”. I wondered that ‘Is there MBC in Israel? Interesting…’, so I guessed that he is probably a reporter of MBC who work in Israel and he might want to report the director who are from Israel. After I figured it out by myself, I translated in Korean like “He is a special reporter from MBC in Israel”. But everyone started laughing at me! I didn’t know what is the problem! A moment later, one of the volunteers said to me, “He said, he is from Israel Embassy!”

   What a shame! >_<

  1. kkk It’s a kind of pronunciation problem. It is not a big mistake~~I also have experience like you When I speak in English sometimes English teachers don’t understand my pronunciation.

  2. hahahaha that’s funny! But you know, I also made many mistakes when I was in other country and one of them is I wanted to say “I like mashed potato” but do you know what did I say?? “I like smashed potato!”

    Everybody makes mistakes :)
    and I always make many mistakes, also some people pronounce wrongly including me. By the way, it was funny story :)

  4. hehehe that’s interesting happening! you had good experience in voluteering. I also have been mistaken like that happening so it embarrassed people. but I’m fine^^
