After arriving at home, I watched human documentary about male nurse. Usually we think nurses should be female and it has been but the number of male nurses are growing thesedays. According to the statement of my female friend who is studying in colleage to be a nurse, there was one female student in their school but now there are three. I guess we should not look at them as an odd person because gender gap in jobs are getting smaller. However, that doesn’t mean male nurses have no difficulties at all while working. First, male nurses have to survive among the female nurses. Since male nurses are still rare, they might not be able to fine any common threads with coworkers and that’s going to be very lonely. Second, male doctors are going to be the worst enemies to them because they will definitely look down on male nurses. Even though all legitimate trades are equally honorable, we unconsciously think that a doctor is a better job than a nurse especially to men. Because of this, male nurses will have to put up with the male doctors’ contempt. Though many people today think that everyone should be treated equally but ironically we tend to put down the people who try to destroy gender expectations. Think about yourself. Aren’t you one of them?
Women in history
When I read a neswpaper, I found something interesting everyday and usually it’s an article or editorial but today was differnt: it was an advertisement. The commercial was about the program to improve our English reading ability and there was a short essay. It was not the ad but the context that attracted me because it was a story about women in history who help their countried by spying. It says that the Virginia Hall is a good example because she was one of the bravest and most successful spies through out the whole history of spies. While reading it, I felt pity for them because their life must have been much tougher than that of any other normal men whether it was their choices or not. However, I’m sure that they were forced to do it because anything can happen in this world and the govenment can ask citizens anything under the cloak of patriotism especially during the War. Also, to some women it could be the only way to live because there were nothing much that woman could do alone at that times different from nowadays. Of course, some people might have taken that job voluntarily like Virginia Hall but most of them were not and I still can imagine how hard and tough their lives would be. It’s sad that women had to live different lives from men’s and I guess we (women) still do even though many people insist that the world is changing. I believe we should think not only about the typical role expectation of women but also the exceptions because there are much more exceptions that we have expected in this world.
Computer system virus hit Cheong Wa Dae
There were many issues which is very interesting to me today and there was also a serious one like this. According to the article, some personal data of a Cheong Wa Dae official were leaked in mid-February after the computer system was attacked by a malicious progran. When I read this article, I was rather worried than shocked or surprised because I thought that many people who knew this accident would definitely cast a doubt on the security system of govenment. Cheong Wa Dae said the worm came through the NSC (National Security Council) official’s personal storage device and he will be punished for violating the security rules. However, I think that solution doesn’t mean anything because the government already lost their credit. I also believe this is why this incident is reported now which is 2 months later when it really happened. Then I started to think about the secrecy and publicy again related to this matter because to make people keep trusting government, this kind of information is good to be hidden but at the same time, citizens in this country have rights to know what’s going on in this country. What do you say about this? Do you think this sort of information should be secert or publicized?
The Newspaper
I love a newspaper. Though I heard the newspapers have pushed outside from mainstream in media, I strongly believe the papers are effective media. There are two reasons.
To begin with, I can see many sources of information at a look. When compared to the internet, a newspaper makes me sort through many information at a look because a newspaper has big size.
On top of that, the newspaper alleviates my eyesight’s fatigue. Whenever I see the internet, my eyes feel so tired easily. However, a newspaper is the black and white, and thus I could see more information on the papers than the one on the internet.
In conclusion, I believe the newspaper would maintains the popularity for those reasons. I sometimes find the information on the papers is almost same with the one on the internet. Therefore, if a newspaper has its features distinguished from other media, the newspaper’s popularity would be raised up.
The “Auction” was hacked..
I got the news that the Auction (http://www.auction.co.kr) was hacked. It is the largest auction company in Korea (originated from EBAY from US) and thousands of personal information including name, identification number, address and email were hacked, and also bank account for me that is the most serious part. I entered my ID and password on the confirming page, then I knew that my imformation was totally hacked, too.
How come is it possible of personal information outflow? I’ll definitely try to find a way for recovering my damage. On the evening, I could access to the Naver Cafe named ”Cafe for the victims of hacking.” And we are preparing to sue the Auction for the lack of the personal imformation management. They hired a famous lawyer of ability for this huge proceeding. I payed 10,000won for the fee and sent a letter of attorney. There remains nothing but waiting.
Some time ago, there were some cases like these, the LG site, KB, and Lineage game site. They give back the users 200,000 won for each person. I wish it goes well so that I can get some extra money on behalf of recovering my personal informaion.
film review ((Mr. Holland’s Opus)
Today I watched a movie ‘Mr. Holland’s Opus’ which is recommended by one of my professors.
It’s a story about teaching career of Mr Holland who is a musician and composer. Actually he decided to have teaching job just because of paying the rent, not because that he really want to love teaching and students. But As time goes by, his attitude toward student have changed. He really have became enjoying his job. So he does his best to not only teach music but also understand what student want to do.
After watching this movie, a question came to my mind. What make good teacher?
The answer was given in this movie. Teacher is not a person who deliver knowledge but a person who can be compass to student.
If you want to be a teacher, I strongly recommend this movie to you.
The media sometimes makes people irritated.
When I wanted to open and check my e-mail, an advertisement did not make me click the box of my e-mail because whenever I dragged the mouse, the advertisement appreared so i could not click the box of my e-mail. At that time, even though I was busy, I could not hurry up because of the advertisement. It made me very irritated and stressed. Therefore, I hated the advertisement and I thought I would not use the item from the advertisement that interfered me to open my e-mail. Like this, sometimes, the advertisement, that is the media, remains of an obstacle to people. In my opinion, the media is very important and necessary but sometimes, it is very useless.
“Taken” – film review
I watched the movie called “Taken” last-night at the cinema. Before i watch this film, I knew about the plot briefly as people already told me about it beforehand. So I expected this film to be just thriller and action type exciting movie as well as the all the other movies, which contains the plot where their kids get kidnapped. Guess my expectation was right! But it has something important matter that i want to discuss about. First of all I want to say that i really liked the film and i actually enjoy the movie more than i thought. The movie taken is directed by a french director. The main character Brian was the former secret Agent worker and now lives separately with her daughter due to the divorce with his wife. He’s daughter Kim was on a trip to Paris with her friend and during the phone call with Brian, she gets kidnapped by strangers. There were no reasons or clues why she got kidnapped and where she was taken to. As Brian was the brilliant former Secret Agent specialty worker, he flew over to Paris and through the risks and ventures, he saves his girl finally.
In the movie the MOBILEPHONE plays the major role that which has connected and led Brian to his daughter Kim.
As technologies have improved we have lots and lots of functions contained just in our mobile phone. I mean mobile phone does more than just making phone calls but we can take pictures and now even has a memory stick (chip) where you can store all your information and you can call and keep the contact with people even outside the country. As Brian has roamed Kim’s phone where they can call easily each other even if Kim was in France and Brian was in California. In the film, Brian records the voice of her daughter at the moment when she got kidnapped and actually finds out who took her, as he analyses the photo album which was contained in her phone. Her mobile phone was the most important evidence which led Brian to find and save her daughter. It was interesting that the fact where technologies and media like mobile phones has took a big part in our lives. The possible real life problem that could happen in our life, mixed and matched with modern technology and media mobile phone was put together in the film and they were well harmonized I guess. Therefore I realized the great usefulness of our mobile phones and it’s capacity in our daily life and I recommend you to watch this film if you haven’t watched it.
Keeping Mum Film Review
In the village of Little Wallop, there is the vicar, Walter Goodfellow, who is unconcerned with his family. He is totally preoccupied with his work such as writing the perfect sermon for a conference, having little sex with his wife Gloria. As a result, she has an affair with her golf instructor Lance. Her daughter Holly is rebellious and frequently has a new boyfriend and son Petey is bullied by schoolmates. That is, the Walter’s is a broken family. Then the new housekeeper Grace comes to them, and great changes happen to their family.
Grace kills everyone who hinders the family’s peace in the bizarre way. Behind grotesque murder cases, there is biting sarcasm. The villagers who attend church services on Sundays have no concern in others except themselves. The vicar Walter who is in charge of the district but even can’t solve problems in the meeting for flower arrangement represents an incompetent, lethargic religion.
I like watching black comedy films. In my opinion, this movie is not creative compared with other black comedy movies in terms of developing plot in the simply way and coming to a plain end that everyone could expect. However, performers in this films show good acting ability. Especially, turning on the ironical charm, Maggie Smith shows perfect acting for Grace who is a graceful murder and has an expressionless face.

First one is about ‘International hacking competition’ and Korean team won a first prize. Second one is about Korean hackers protected Korean computer system from Chinese crackers’ attack. They are fighting for justice. They said “When hackers let Microsoft know about their comtputer system’s weakness they accept it and try to fix it. However Korean companies say they will sue us. Our job is making them safe but they don’t know our effort and usually get us wrong as criminals or something. Many talented hackers stop working in this field. We are loosing them. ” His comment made me sad. Hackers who are working for society safe do their best for their vocation. What’s our reaction? Are we going to look for them when we need them ? We should help and build up our good relationship since now. They are the champion and world know them but how much are we interested in them? I want you to look at those two articles and share your ideas.
(Sorry, two of them are all articles written in Korean. I could not find English ones. )
