Today, after school, I came back to home, and I found a letter on my desk. I was surprised, and I hoped it will be from my friend, Kyung-min. In January, he joined the military. Now he’s serving in the Navy. About two weeks ago, he called me, and let me know his news. After the call, I sent a letter to him. I hoped he will recieve it well because whenever I sent letters to my friends, it didn’t go well. In this reason, when I found the letter, my heart fluttered. I thought even if e-mail will have great development, the letters won’t disappear. Writing a letter, mailing it, waiting for it, and recieving it give us happiness, which is different from using e-mail. That’s why people still write letters.

I bet he was very happy to receive your letter, wasn’t he? You should keep sending them… letters have often been the thing that help people to live through difficult times away from the people and places they care about.
For a moment I was confused. You said that Kyung-Min joined the “Army” before, but that now he’s serving in the “Navy”. Then I realized, you mean he joined “the military”.
The term “army” is for soldiers on land, while “navy” is for soldiers at sea. And “air force” is for soldiers in the air. Of course, in American military terms, “Marines” are actually in the “Navy” but are a lot more like “Army” soldiers. There are so many other kinds of soldiers too, like Navy Seals, Red Berets, and so on. I don’t know much about all of these, but I do know that the generic term is “the military”, not “the army”.
Anyway, as for me, I almost never send paper letters, but I know what you mean. I have friends who send paper letters a lot. I tease them that they’re living in the 19th century, but actually, I understand why they enjoy traditional letters. But me, I prefer email!

Actually, I also like sending e-amil because it is convenient to send to my friends who live far away. But sometimes I write paper letter for my friends who is with me and give them, or send it. It makes me feel good. I recommend it to you. If you have a chance someday, please try it~
