Over the Talent (Earl Boykins who is the shortest player in NBA)
The new NBA record was recorded in November 11th, 2004. A player of Denver Nuggets scored 32 points. It was less than record of Michael Jordan’s all time point average. But it’s not just as 32 points that recorded by any other players. The new record was recorded by the shortest player ‘Earl Boykins’ who is the shortest ever.
Good constitution is the best part of sports players espcially basketball players. In basketball, players have to play as looking upper part. It’s closely related with good constituionㅡhigh height. Even if many players’ basic abilities are bad, NBA scouters choose those players if their height are over than 210 meters tall.
Earl Boykins graduated from the Eastern Michigan University where George Gervin also known as ‘Ice Man’ had graduated. Earl Boykins was a great player in NCAA, but his short heightㅡ165 centimetersㅡwas a strumbling block for NBA DRAFT. So he debuted from CBA.
In Rockford Lightning, his stats were 7.4 points and 3.7 assists during 29 games. He was fixed lots of NBA scouters’ eyes on, and he debuted NBA from New Jersey Nets. But he was released from New Jersey Nets just he played only 5 games, so he had to return CBA league. He recorded 21.6 points and 9.3 assists in CBA finally he was chosen 2nd about point part and 1st about assist part. After those conspictious active he could play in NBA again.
Short heightㅡnot just short height, the shortest height in NBAㅡis his weak point, but he has many more strong pointsㅡgood dribbling, precise free throw shot, and score abilityㅡ than his 165 centimeter high height. He has had his carrer in New Jersey, Cleaveland, Orlando and Golden States, in other words he had to change his team many times. Even if his great basketball ability, still his short height was a strumbling block.
Finally he was scouted in Denver Nuggets in 2003. The condition of contract was 13 million dollars for 5 years. The condition about a termㅡ5yearsㅡ was better condition for him than the condition about moneyㅡ13 million dollars. It means he didn’t have to change his team again and again. Stablie conditionㅡ5 years in Denver Nuggetsㅡmade him good at play. He recorded 12.4 points and 4.5 assists last year and he was choosen 3rd in sixman prize.
And he also recorded another new record last year. He scored 15 points just in extended game at Seattle Supersonics. He weighs just 60 kilogram but he can lift bench press which weighs 142 kilogram. And he can touch a rim even if he is 165 centermeters tall. He is the most precious ever in NBA because I think the reason of that is his continual effort.
