Have you ever been to the National Cemetery?
Have you ever been to the National Cemetery? I get there two times every year-Chooseok and the Memorial Day, because there are two cemeteries of my own grandfather and maternal grandfather. One was a officer, and the other was a soldier in the Korean War, and they died in the war. In the National Cemetery, there are cenotaphs that the wall written many undiscovered solider’s names and innumerable tombstones like my grandfathers’.
The National Cemetery is one of the well-made places in Korea. Grand scale gives out majesty, statues are filled with Korean sensibility, and countless cemeteries are arranged very well.(Of course, it is too sad that the scale and the close arrangements are because of too many precious and pity death.) First of all, the place causes the respect for the ancestors, and you can’t imagine it if you haven’t been there. I am proud of and love the place.
The National cemetery is made to pay tribute to the brave ancestors who died in thier youth in the war. The place is a symbol of sad history and war widow’s heavy lives. Todays the number of visitors to the place has fallen. I am very sorry about it. If you are Korean, please get to the National Cemetery at least once, and memory Korea’s history and your ancestors’ death.
