LEEUM
| I visited LEEUM Museum in near Itaewon in Seoul. Even before entering the museum, you will be impressed with the architecture of the museum building. It is extremely contemporary and different, especially for a museum, but it does not harm the surrounding view.
When you enter the museum, you are provided with a high-tech PDA which acts as a guide. It automatically detects exactly where you are and which display you are looking at, and then it explains the history and details of that work. I heard that LEEUM stands for “Lee’s Museum”. Lee refers to Lee Gun-Hee, who is the president of the Samsung Group. Effectively, the art work on display are in his private collection. It is a shame that such valuable and historical art works are owned privately, and not owned by the state. But at the same time, it is great that we have the opportunity to see such masterpieces in Seoul without having to travel abroad. |
