Media’s function has broadened until now. I usually use media for taking some rest in my life. When I tired of my study, I see the cartoon strips, funny video, and movies. It gives me encouragement to study again. The media’s function is very important to me. In fact, the media’s purpose is giving information to the public originally, but the purpose seems to be broadened for entertainment. In the web 2.0 environment, the entertainment’s function has been enforced. It also reflects on the time to spare in our lives, and people spend much time on making and consuming the media. I believe the media’s function will be broadened in various ways. As we have seen, the media can become means to take a part in politics. I hope the media’s function will give beneficial things to the people as media’s function has broadened.

In a newspaper, I got the fact that many people actively take a role in producing information, but they also make distorted information to hell. Wikipedia in Korea is one of good example to see those facts. Accoding to today’s newspaper, the Wikipedia in Korea decided to interrupt compiling 71 words including the name of ‘Lee Myeong-bak’, the president of Korea. The reason is that many people assault the president and distort the information about the president to hell. Media can provoke emotion as against reason, which can cause faulty judgement of viewers. Many visual materials such as video and photos should be shown in two sides fairly. However, people use the media to persuade and support their argument to the public. In the internet oriented world, we need to decide right selection. In my opinion, if Wikipedia use internet real-name system, many users can upload the information in taking their responsibility. It also would be helpful for us to get right information. Maybe, it will cost a lot to practice the read-name system. However, I hope I could see truth and real informations.

When I practice UCC project, I feel like this project teaches me something. To begin with, I had no experience of making UCC, but I can do that now. During doing this project, I could learn how to manipulate movie makers and which contents and effects are the best for the scenes. Second, as Lawrence Lessig said, the copyright was originally for the many people, protecting monopoly. However the law is used for just keeping producer’s profits nowadays. Their right should be kept, but, in some situation, the law have to has flexibility. When it comes to education, I believe that the copyright should be opened for the students to manipulate it. During manipulating it, I could learn many things. In view that the media is a means of expressing something, I could learn how to reveal my idea by media, manipulating it. In short, I felt it was a good experience.

The Street journalism is the other name of Web 2.0 media. Media have had being a pivotal role in protest against mad cow. We can see the power of the media through this issue. First of all, the media makes it possible for a host of people to take part in the protest voluntarily on basis of internet. The people discuss the problem and provide their information on the internet. By sharing the information, many people can access the reality of the protest and are drawn to the protest having their own will. Second, there are lots of reporters in media. Many people are making kind of media such as videos, and photos. They upload the scene of protest, and let people get the information with just one click of the mouse. A host of media are made, the effect of a number of media is also enormous. That is the reason why Web 2.0 media is known as the Street journalism. In conclusion, media makes people produce, share, and consume the information in Korea. Clay Shirky also says that fact. We need to recognize the power of the media.

These days, the Candle Light Vigil has becoming main issue in Korea. Many citizen argue that polices suppress them by force. In fact, the Candle Light Vigil is for protesting the problem about  mad cow disease. At the first time, it was peaceful vigil, but the characteristic of the meeting seems to be changed a little bit. I heard some people barred the traffic system. Government says that they will hinder their gathering positively. Today I saw that there might be some groups manipulating the vigil behind the meeting in the newspaper. I don’t know the truth. In the internet, there are many arguments that police do violent act. I think it is true. However, some words are lying such as dying of violation by polices. I believe that, above all, the truth of mad cow disease must be discovered clearly, and the truth should be known to citizens as it is. I think the media plays a key role in pervading this Candle Light Vigil over our nation. Some words are true, but some ones are not in the internet. Finally, media is good tools to get information, but it also can make our recognition about truth distorted.  

As you know, Media has given lot of information to us. These days, I am looking for some English course for summer vacation. Then, I got some information of the English school. However, I came up with the idea. I was wondering whether the information was trustworthy or not. In fact, all of courses look so great. In other words, all of them are romanticized by advertising only their advantages. I need to find something kind of personal reviews of someone who took part in the courses. I also know even the review can be manipulated by someone who takes a part time job writing advertising words down on the internet. However, I used the reviews for getting the truth of the English courses. Ironically, I used the media to know the truth of media.

I sometimes watch interesting video clips in the Youtube site. The site has enormous videos and gives me lots of sources I want to see. The videos are given to us for fun as free stuffs. I think the function of media is good to us, and thus should be promoted by making more videos. However, there are some problems of copyright. When I read the Free Culture, I got one fact. We usually upload the video clips as it is or modified and remixed one, which are regulated in the same ways by the law. However, the regulation of the former and the latter should be separated according to the book. The reason is that the using of original sources as it is violates creator’s property, but remixed and modified ones can promote the creativity and the industries. I agree with his opinion. As I mentioned above, In the Youtube, there are a host of interesting video clips which has great creativity. I believe that the kind of modified creations should be protected by the law to boost our creativities and the industries.

Have you heard about the new about AI, Avian Influenza? AI has been being issue because AI has spread over all area of the Korea. Many people are scared of the AI. I got the fact that the authorities did not practice quarantine measures properly. They did the measures just one time after receiving the news of AI case from the agriculture ministry, and they did not anything during testing the AI case. Now the AI is pervaded over the Korea. Therefore, we should something to prevent ourselves from AI. One of those is not to feed the bird. Moreover, when we have chickens and eggs, the chickens and eggs should be cooked on the fire over the 75 degree for more 5 minutes. In conclusion, although AI is threat people in Korea, AI can be prevented if we take care of a few things about AI.

Today, I got the new about Chinese’s violence from newspaper and TV. About 6,000 Chinese people got together in Seoul for celebrating Olympic flame. However, during the event, they struck Korean people and even police officers with various stuff. When I saw the new, I felt uncomfortable. Although the Beijing Olympic should be peaceful, the china show us violent figures including military force on Tibet. To take a personal experience, when I was Melbourne in Australia, I saw a host of Chinese people. The season was Chinese national holiday and I felt Chinese people were so many and was overwhelmed. Likewise, the number of Chinese is too many and their violent doing threatened Korean people today. I believe that Chinese’s civil conscience must be raised up with going their power up.

I love a newspaper. Though I heard the newspapers have pushed outside from mainstream in media, I strongly believe the papers are effective media. There are two reasons.

To begin with, I can see many sources of information at a look. When compared to the internet, a newspaper makes me sort through many information at a look because a newspaper has big size.

On top of that, the newspaper alleviates my eyesight’s fatigue. Whenever I see the internet, my eyes feel so tired easily. However, a newspaper is the black and white, and thus I could see more information on the papers than the one on the internet.

In conclusion, I believe the newspaper would maintains the popularity for those reasons. I sometimes find the information on the papers is almost same with the one on the internet. Therefore, if a newspaper has its features distinguished from other media, the newspaper’s popularity would be raised up.
