Korean government should not import rice from abroad. Rice has been the staple food for Korean poeple for many years, and we cannot magine having meals without it. Therefore, if the government continues to import rice from other countries such as the U.S.A. and Chile , it will make not only farmers but also korean citizens be in trouble in the future. Nowadays, Korean farmers protest against the law of importing rice. We should know what will happen if the import goes on. It is natural for the farmers to lose their jobs because people are going to buy cheaper products, which are from abroad if they can choose. Then, Nobody is willing to be a farmer anymore ,and of course the present farmers in Korea also will decrease in number. The problem is that because there will be no farmers or farmhouses anymore eventually, if importers raise the price of the rice, we have to import unimaginably expensive rice, which is absurd. When these things happen, regret will not mend matters.
It has been controversy for a long time. I agree with your idea ,but in reality there is no way but accepting imported rice. It could be a huge impact on Korean farmers. However, what I want to say is that it is not good if they make a protest agressively. I suggest that they be more wise and competitive to protect their property.
I actually agree with you too. I am in two minds about the issue. I got the reality of accepting the rice from abroad, but I am just concerned about what would happen to agriculture economy in Korea.
