Have you ever thought about this? The WTO demanded that Korea should import rice from all over the world. Some of the Korean protest about this, and the other Korean accept it.
The protestant says if the import is allowed, most of the Koran farmers will lose their job. That is why there are so many foreign farmers who can provide low priced rice in the overseas. Surely consumers prefer cheap goods. It can cause the ruin of farmers, and it is not only the ruin of farmers but also destruction of agriculture. Rice is Korean’s main food, so it becomes more serious.
Then, do we have to ban the trade on the rice? I can not agree with this. I know it is a really important and sensitive problem. So, please remember it is just my opinion. We can not delay the trade on rice forever. I think it is a kind of isolation although the rice import included many complicate problems and discords. If we do not open the door ourselves, it will be done by foreign countries. Why do not we prepare and make our rice wonderful? Make it special. Let the Korean farmers increase their competitiveness. Consumers prefer cheap goods, but they consider quality, too. Producing good quality rice is the best way to solve this problem for Korean farmers.
First, I just thought that the trade was bad because it could made a great loss to Korean farmers. But, I heard that rice in California has a great taste ,and if such rices are imported, Korean rice will get lost. It is terrible. However, I think that Korean will buy Korean rice because many problems about foreign foods appear. I believe Korean foods are the best for Koreans.
I think we should be mutual about this matter but I just feel sorry for the farmers.
