Tequila vs. Bokbunjaju
Alcohol has been enjoyed around the world for centuries, if not millennia, with cultures deriving their own forms of drink, customs and sometimes rituals around it. I ate tequila with my partner Dong-hoon Bae in Sinchon cafe for the first time on this Saturday. Now, I want to explain the difference tequila and bokbunjaju which is the traditional Korean drink.
Tequila is a Mexican liquor distilled from the fermented juices obtained from the hearts of blue agave plants grown in the Tequila Region. The liquor gets its name from the town of Tequila located in the state of Jalisco where production started more than 200 years ago. Bokbunjaju is a famous liquor of Kochang area. It is traditional liquor that has great color, aroma, and taste. Thking Bokbunja, a mans stamina gets strong and a night stool is turned upside down, Bok in Bokbunja means turning upside down(UY), and Bun in Bokbunja means a water jar(YI). On a late spring day, an old man and his wife went to gather greens to the woods and when they got hungry, they picked Bokbunja(wild berries) and ate. Late that night, the old man urinated in the night stool and the streak of urine was so strong it turned the stool upside down. The old mans wife got pregnant the night. The name was originated from the story.
The tequila shot with salt on one hand and a bite of lime is Hollywood stuff and few people drink it that way, mostly tourists. However, some people do put some lime juice in the tequila or bite the lime before sipping it. In many restaurants throughout Mexico they bring you a small tray with your favorite brand, a caballito with sangrita, salt and half a lime. In a bokbunjaju case, we can drink it with in a small shoot glass. we act bottoms up and bump each glass wall.
I really enjoyed tequila. It tastes fantastic and how it drink is very fun. I got a new expierence and it’s good chane I can got in with partner Donghoon.
