Today I watched I am Legend.
It is about human kind discovered a cure for cancer.
But with great discovery came worst results.
The cancer cure caused a more deadly virus.
They became zombie because of the infection.
Finally the main actor found the treatment of the virus and killed from zombie.
It was impressed that the main actor said, “we caused this disaster, not god.”
Being development of science and technology lead good results.
But what i thought durling this movie, human being can causes bad situation.
We don’t know how much we can develop and cure about human and natural.
Do you think we need any control to protect as could be happen in future?
Do you thing we need limit to respect human nature?
or Can we develop more like to treatment everything and control nature?
I saw this movie when it was released. As a student who once studied biochemisty, I think we have to control our curiosity. Though we will be able to fine the cure, we can not sure how long will it take. What if a hundres of thousands of people die while scientists are working on the project? The bottom line is we have to consider what’s going to happen when we exploit our abilities.
Gah! You should know one thing: I Am Legend — the original book, by Richard Matheson — was a vampire book! (But yes, they look a lot like zombies in this film.)
As for me, I think we need to respectfully, and humbly, and carefully, continue to deepen our control of nature. After all, we like to think Nature is a kind, sweet mother, but Nature is also what gives us epidemic diseases like tuberculosis, polio, and the black plague; nature is (part of) what makes people get cancer and die, what brings floods to kill thousands, and what causes volcanoes to erupt, destroying thousands of lives in only a few seconds.
We shouldn’t be arrogant, or our attempts to control nature will kill us — like in the movie — but I don’t think we can afford not to learn more about how to control nature. It’s only through our science and technology that we can keep over 6 billion people alive on earth right now.
By the way, the movie’s ending is TOTALLY different from the book. Could you guess that? Fans all over the world are angry at what a bad ending it was!
I seached the ending of the book. but i couldn’t find it. would you tell me?
i just found the alternative ending of the movie. It ends wtih him giving the zombie or “vampire” back his love and they continue to search for survivors.
I also think that we should be carefull to explore and control nature especially in the area of science. Think what happened after science has been greatly developed. Human being has been undergone the World War One, Two and have nuclear weapon which can kill the earth.
As far as I remember, at the end of the book, Neville basically realizes that, as everyone else is a vampire except him, he is the “legend” — the mythical monster — that the vampires talk about with fear in their hearts. I think he realizes this just before he dies.
I also think the woman with the kid was sent by the vampires, in the book — as a pet or something — but I should note that I haven’t yet read the book. It’s in my pile of books to read someday. Richard Matheson, the author, is famous for that novel and many wonderful short stories. Scary stuff!
