I notice something about Korea when I visited China a few weeks ago. When I seen people walk up the stairs or escalators in China I noticed a difference. They had no order in how they used the stairs. Most time they both take up left and right walking area on escalator. In Korea you might notice most times people wait one side of escalator and allow the other side for people who need to go up faster. Then after this experience with China when I look at Korean media advertisement in Subway I see they are promoting a different way. The way the media advertises is to take up both sides. I think it is for safety because they show a family in the photo advertisement. It is interesting though that Korea seems to have their own manner still and use one side for slow and one for fast. Which way do you think is better?
That’s funny… my experience in Korea is rather different. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve felt my blood pressure rise on escalators because someone decided to stop walking up the left side, and everyone behind has to just stand and wait. It’s common in China, too, but I’m NOT used to it.
(In Canada, this rarely happens and when it does, people usually ask the person to move or start walking, but people don’t seem to do that here. Then again, in Montreal, some idiots block the escalator AND start smoking before they even get out of the station. That’s even more annoying!)
I also saw the ad you mentioned, and went , “Nooooooooooo!” I don’t like the idea that escalators should be blocked all the time. Especially when the girl in that advertisement was old enough to handle escalator travel all by herself. (I could at that age.)
