DIY Marketing

Nowadays, from shoes to clothes DIY (do-it-yourself) is popular. In case of ADIDAS,  new line launches named Adicolor. Adicolor shoes sell with color penciles, and spray. Customers can paint on the shoes as they want. Incomplete pruduct is global trend, so PUMA, PRADA, and other brands is plannig to sell the products that can finish by customers. For example, putting name on bags or shoes, and  adding beads. The reason why DIY products are booming is that customers want to have the only one for oneself. Also, it can make not only producers’ identities but also customers’ various tastes. Besides, if a woman buy a crystal pants that has many beads on that, she can’t help spending much money. However, if she buy a cheap pants and beads, and then put bead on the pants by themselves, she can get crystal pants with ten thousand won. DIY fever is not going to be cold because many people are enjoy that. Acually, Vans Reform Design Contest that held two month ago, from teenagers to fifty years old weman, about 1200 were participated in.

Education Inequality

Uncategorized — sunmyung on June 11, 2006 at 7:22 pm

When I worked a kindergarten in Kimpo, I was very shocked because of education inequality. I had heard that problem through News or class, but I didn’t consider that problem seriously. However, I easily recognized that problem as soon as I began work. I took care of six or seven-year-old kids. Most of kids in my class have working mom, so they had to leave lately in kindergarten about up to seven o’clock. The kids looked very lonely, and some kids looked messy. I was sad. The more serious problem was that some kids didn’t read and write Korean even though they would go elementary school next year. Other kindergarten’ children even read English! I worried that poor kids would be in trouble in school.  I asked another teacher the reason, and she said that most kids have working moms, so they didn’t have chance to taking careing, or some kids have one parents; mom or dad because of divorce. I thought economical hardships effect on educational chance. It is so unfair and sad, isn’t it? However, still i don’t know what I can do for the kids.

Passion

Wordcup has begun, so many coutries work hard to win. Although I had many works to do, I saw the games. Germany vs. Cosata Rica and England vs. Paraguay games was exciting. All players ran and ran, and didn’t give up to the end. No matter who is win, this sports games are impressive to me because all the people are very passionate. The scene that one person works hard to goal is wonderful. For this reason, I like watching musicals. All actors perform for about two hours whether they are nervous or happy. They ought to overcome some difficulties, and finally audience can feel their acheivements.  Either sport games or perfomances are marvelous. I think that if anyone has dreams in his or her mind,  he or she has no afraid. I believe that dream or goal makes people alive. When I get tired, I used to go watch musical. It’s very helpful because I feel that actor’s cheerful energy transfer to me. Fortunately, I needn’t to go far to watch musical during June thanks to Worldcup. I’m looking forward to watching great games and passionate player!

Zero Tolerance

Uncategorized — sunmyung on June 11, 2006 at 4:22 pm

The term zero tolerance started in New York that occured many criminals. It means that never forgive any misdemeanor. Actually, in 1990, New York decided to regulate free passengers in subway, and after that, subway criminals are surprisingly decreased half than before.  Zero tolerance is based on broken window theory.  Broken window theory means a broken window makes people think that build leave, so it finally causes many other criminals. After New York’s success, many schools accept Zero Tolerance. For preventing big trouble in school, teachers prohibit bring plastic knife for peeling apples. These days, in Korea, the incidets that students hit friends or even teacher are increasing. In deed, a teacher quited her job because of insolent student who kicked her. At this point of time, people ought to think about what problem is. Zero tolenrance might be rigid rules to young students, but they ought to know how they behavior and what manners is.

World cup

Uncategorized — mokhyun on June 11, 2006 at 3:17 pm

I like to watch soccer very much. Actually, I wasn’t interested in soccer before the 2002 Korea& Japan worldcup. I didn’t know what the ‘off side’ is. In 2002 summer, I went to the Seoul city hall with my freinds. It was so crowded that we couldn’t go up from the subway station. Everywhere, people wear red T-shirt and happy, smile face. however eveytime the World cup is held in middle of June. University students are so unlucky, because we have final exam. I heard that, it is because June is the best season for soccer players. There are other big leagues like Euroupean soccer in spring. This World cup is also held in the middle of the June when we have our final exam. Our team have to fight against Swiss, France and Togo. I hope at least winning Togo. Through the 2002 World cup, I thought that we have to make our traditional festival like other countries. For example, in Thai, they have ’Water festival’ in May, and somewhere has tomato festival( I can’t remember the city). I saw most of Koreans are very excited at World cup. Unfortunately, we have no big festival like others. Maybe we can make it. In  June I wish we can support our team for a long time.

I love cat. I don’t know why I like it. Actually, I’ve never had a pet, because my parents don’t like pet. Furthermore, my sister has an allegic to animal. One of my friend also love cat very much. Last year, she brought a little kitten from someone. It was very cute. He stared at me behind the furniture. I tried to be allowed to have a cat. I asked my mom that I can have a cat. Than she told me very strictly that I can’t. Besides, she said, she will let it out of the house if I bring it. But, I will buy really cute cat this year! Cats are not dirty animal at all. I believe they are cleaner than us. They clean their body by themselves frequently, also, make their waste in sand. They never  make waste anywhere like other pets. I told this facts to my parents, but it was useless to my parents. I bought a schedule book which is designed of cat every page. How poor I am! It’s very unfair that I can’t have my pet. In the future, I will buy pet for my children and let them learn about love of animals. I hope having cat on my birthday.

The use of Cell Phones while Driving

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 10, 2006 at 9:58 pm

In today’s society our technology is more advanced than ever before. So far advanced is our society that we can easily use cell phones to speak to anyone, anywhere and at any time. For example, we can use cell phones while driving, or to speak to someone in another country. We can use them in the business world to conduct meetings or to relay vital information to co-workers or to conduct trade with other businesses. Today’s American culture relies heavily on the use of the cell phones. The recent growth of cellular telephone usage is a phenomenon that defies all gender, racial, and age boundaries. Cell phones are more than just the latest electronic gadget on the market. They are essential parts of our business and personal lives. Driving while using
the cell phone is very common and proves a major threat to people’s lives on the road. Cell phones must banned while driving; however, I also agree that cell phones are beneficial for communication and for gaining help in emergencies.
The cellular phone, while not being directly related to automotive travel, has become one of the popular and life-threatening innovations. “Today, one high-tech device in particular – the cell phone – has become the significant highway safety to concern”. The number of cellular phone users has grown to one hundred million in the United States. There are two categories of cell-phone purposes. The first category, which is least popular, is called “only for emergencies.” Cellular phones used in this category are simply reliable sources of communication. Some emergencies might include: a broken-down car, stranded family friends, and calls regarding directions.
The second category of cell-phone purposes is called “the attention thief.” This is the leading cause of car accidents and in almost all cases, death. The cellular phones used in this category consist of long personal conversations that steal the drivers’ attention away from the road, other drivers, and pedestrians. Driving while talking on a cellular phone negatively affects a person’s ability to drive, and increases the risk of anyone else on the road. Hence, the use of the cell-phone by drivers should banned.
The government should impose a more strict law with the regard to this kind of scenario. This would not only give protection to the person himself but it would also lessen the number of accidents happening every year, every month, or every day. This kind of action of the government would really be very beneficial to everyone who uses cell phones while driving.

IMPORTANCE OF LITTLE THINGS

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 10, 2006 at 9:47 pm

Life is chiefly made up, not of great and wonderful achievements but of little things which seem so unworthy of notice that great good or evil is brought into our lives.
It is through our failure to endure the test that come to us in little things, that habits are molded, characters misshaped, and when the greater tests come, they in the test of daily life can we acquire power to stand firm and faithful in the most dangerous and most difficult situation.
Little things in an academy, office or workplace may suggest success or failure. From obedience to simple rules or disobedience to a certain admonition presents danger.
Little things like coming on time, working on time, saying little hello, spells good success.
What a wonderful workplace would it be if these little things given the biggest attention.

Progress

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 10, 2006 at 9:31 pm

Progress means moving or going forward in a process or an advancement. It is the idea of a process in which societies or individuals become better. It also refers to a type of a process that constantly changes some parameters of the society.
Progress has not always proved to have positive effects on society. But the introduction of newer and better machines and technology has meant more pleasant lives. Despite many negative aspects of these changes, such as laziness and dependence on machines, history has evolved based on progress.
Progress may mean that many countries have dense populations, as well as industrial pollution caused by carbon emissions and careless handling of heavy metals. It is true that all these have led to depletion of the ozone layer and global warming. It may also mean that many countries have developed nuclear weaponry in the belief that it can deter a war.
It is no exaggeration to say that technological progress has made us lazy and dependent on machines. Many children have grown glued to computers and television and prefer to use calculators rather than to use their brain.
History has developed based on human progress, so has the society. There are many people who neglect preventing pollution or forget to cultivate themselves, because technological advances have made them callous to the negative aspects of progress. No matter what, human society has moved forward in a positive direction thanks to progress made by efforts and ingenuity of so many people who lived in the past and those who are living in the present times.
While technological advances have come at a price, including pollution and endemic laziness among people, they have been the engine of growth of humanity. History has evolved while progress is made. Progress may not be always good, but it has pushed the human society forward and upward.

Extinction

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 10, 2006 at 9:24 pm

Million times ago, the earth wasruled by dinosaurs. We know that they were numerous and we also know they became extinctbefore man lived on earth. Everyoneknows ‘extinct’ mean all the membersof aspecies are dead. Scientist say once, fewer than ten species became extinct each year. This is normal. But now, 1,000 of species became extincteach year. This is may be earth’s biggest danger. What the causes extinction? We maynever know what caused the dinosaurs to become extinct. But we do know most extinctions today are caused by man. Some animals became extinct due to hunting. Plants, too, are at risk of becoming extinct because of humans cutting woods, etc.

Everyone needs a home, and animals are no exception. Some animals become extinct because they lose their homes. So, we must save their homes and we must not make pollution. Pollution can cause extinctions, too. For example, why are fish dying? Because water pollution makes them sick. So, we must try to save them before they extinct.

Which place would you prefer to live in?

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 10, 2006 at 9:09 pm

Many people prefer to live in big cities, but some others prefer to live in small towns. Both places have their own advantages and disadvantages. Can we live in a big city happily? Or can we live in a small town without regretting our decision to be away from big cities? Big cities seem to have more problems, including serious population density and environmental pollution, than small towns. I would like to live in a small town despite many advantages big cities can provide, such as better educational opportunities, better public transportation systems, better utility services and easier access to information. First, small towns are less polluted and less densely populated than big cities. In the era of the Internet and well-connected nationwide highways, living in a small town is never a problem. On the contrary, living in a less polluted part of the country is a privilege. Moreover, the spiderweb-like interconnections of the information highways link small towns with big cities across the country and around the world. Although big cities can provide better educational opportunities and utility services, small towns have advantages of their own. I believe I can receive a genuine education in small towns by learning from both textbooks and natural environment. Second, people can fit in with everyone else easily in small towns. In big cities, people normally live in jungles of apartment buildings without feeling the need to go out of their way to mix with their neighbors. In small towns, you can also mix with the natural environment at every turn of the seasons. Imagine you are absorbed in studies with your friends in school surrounded by the greenery of spring, the roar of streams in summer, the scintillating foliage in fall and the snow-capped mountains in winter. Under the canopy of stars, you can make wishes upon shooting stars at night. Your neighbors can be friends anytime without reservation. In small towns, you can develop your own sensitivity to nature and beauty, and respectable personality, the two prerequisite to humans. Small towns don’t offer people many opportunities for jobs and lifestyles. In many cases, they can’t offer a decent standard of life, nor an opportunity to meet people of different backgrounds, cultures, and political and personal beliefs, as big cities can. But in the era of information highways, I believe we can learn in small towns as well as in big cities. After all, I prefer a better quality of life in a small town.

CCTV

Uncategorized — sunmyung on June 10, 2006 at 1:06 am

These days, many CCTVs are installed almost everywhere such as elevators, schools, buses, subway stations, and so on. Also, for preventing criminals, CCTVS are installed in the roads. Actually, my town has a CCTV every two blocks. Officers said, “It is for you, because it helpful for eradicating criminals.” However, how much CCTVs can really prevent offense? I think, it is useful for just collecting evidence for proving guilty. About ten years ago, people wanted roadlamps for security, but now, people want to intall CCTVs in dark road. I don’t know why this situation happens.  A few days ago, shocking incident occred in English town that has many CCTVs all the corners. In spite of CCTVs, a teacher committed disgraceful conduct to a student, and nobody knew that because any guard watched many TVs carefully. CCTV is losting its worth, people have to other alternative plans for security about horrible criminal and private life.

I went to see a movie titled,”Narnia” when I was in Australia.I liked it very much, becauseits background is snowy world. At that time, it was very hot in Australia. It was almost 36 degree, so I felt cool. Anyway, it’s genre was fantasy which is my favorite. There is a new world behind the beautiful closet. I remembered my childhood. When I played “hide-and-seek” I used to hide in my father’s closet. When I wait for the seeker I felt sort of fear about darkness. It was exciting, indeed! I want to back to my childhood.

metabolism

Uncategorized — hyojin on June 9, 2006 at 10:03 am

Do you know what metabolism is? It is the chemical process that change food into energy in our body. I researched about weight loss to write an essay and found out that increasing metabolism is really important to lose weight. The higher we metabolism the more fats we burn. So I want to share some tips for increasing metabolism. We should make our bodies warm to increase it because when we run or have a bath we sweat. It means our body temperatures go up, and it says our metabolism work effectively. So I recommend you to run, have a bath or tea in the morning. Why in the morning? It is because our bodies hardly work during the night, so morning is the best time to wake up our bodies and make them work more effectively. It is the similar way as something rarely working like a sleeping horses stimulated by a whip it starts to work really fast. So what I wanted to say is that we should increase metabolism to lose weight effectively.

Reds, Go together

Most of Koreans are excited about the Worldcup coming tomorrow. I remember that one of my teachers said that, ‘Koreans are crazy!’ when we had 2002 Worldcup. He never gave us a dayoff during the worldcup even though the other teachers allowed us to enjoy the games instead of attending class. Korean Worldcup culture is special because we can find who we are through the Worldcup. On the day we have a game, thousands of people come thogether in Kwanghwamoon, City Hall, Han river, or even in bars and cheer our team watching a huge screen together. It is really exciting and makes us feel we are all Korean. It’s really good for us to feel we are the one. Many foreigners do not understand why Koreans are crazy about soccer. It is not because we like watching a sport game, it is because Koreans like feeling we are together and belonging one society as a society member. However the places we get together to see a game are crowded, we always feel good cheering our team all together. That is Korean.

The old man and the boy

I always go to university by subway, in there I usually witness various appearances of  people.  About that time when I take a subway in order to go my university is beyond the rush hour, so I almost seat on a chair in a subway. On the way to take the subway today, the opposite side of chair where I seated, there are the old man and the cute boy. I wore smile just as watched the scene that the boy had good sleep with leaning against his grandfather’s shoulder. The child’s face looked very comfortable, and the grandfather’s eyes were filled with a warm affection toward his grandson. In my case, I hardly lived with my grandparents, so I only visited them during special holiday like lunar new year and thanksgivingday. I used to feel strange and tense a little bit whenever I meet  them, but now I realize that they has aged visibly for these years. In addtion, they must be please if I try to keep in touch with them many times. The scene that they leaned each other made me heartwarming.

Successful people

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 8, 2006 at 10:07 am

Who are successful? Who is happy? I think people are happy if they have jobs that they want, and if they have people who make them happy. Firstly, people are successful and happy if they have the best job that they want. They would be happy if they work the best. Secondly, peopleare successful and happy if they are rich because they can do anything  that they want except paying more taxes to the government. Thirdly, though they are poor, if they have people who make them happy, those people are happy and successful people. I think people can’t be successful or happy only because of having a lot of money. People may be happy if they do What they want.

These days, I have seen advertisements on the Internet that go like this: “you can make a lot of money without putting in much effort”, “you’ll receive 12,500 won for every email you read”, “if you gather several members, you will make enough money to last your whole life.” But all of the Internet users hate these ads and they ask the web masters to erase the ads. Many of my friends said: “They are all lies”, ” I have joined them but I have gotten little money”, “If you join the sites, you would be out-flowed your personal informations”. I’m curious. Why are the sites giving us money without anything in return? Is it just for seeing their advertisements? Well… Sometimes I wonder if there’s any way to get money easily, but I always hesitate. Of course, I’m not sure it is true or not.. but actually, I don’t believe that. Because my motto is ” No Pain, No Gain” I just think If you are busy reading E-mail for ads, It is a waste of time!

East Sea or Sea of Japan

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 8, 2006 at 8:56 am

I went to the University of Texas at Austin’s homepage to see a map of the Mediterranean (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps). Many travelers recommended this website as a ‘collection of maps.’ But I was surprised at the collection. There were so many maps. And more surprisingly, I even saw an old map of Korea and Japan. I forgot about my initial purpose of finding a map of the Mediterranean and I began to look at these old maps. Most of the old maps (made by western people) called the East Sea as ‘the Sea of Japan.’ I have heard that there are also many maps that call the East sea as ‘the East Sea.’ But I couldn’t find any maps like this. I think the Korean government or various universities should find old maps which state the East Sea as ‘the East Sea’ and make them available to the public.

Problem of Early English Education

Uncategorized — Lee Ji Eun on June 8, 2006 at 8:51 am

The current boom of early English education in this country merits reconsideration. Parents are paying too much cost for english tutoring conducted by native speakers and oversea language courses. In additions, there are some extreme cases in which they make children undergo surgery of loosening tongue for better pronunciation.     Supporters of early English education argue that it is needed in line with trends of globalization and liberalization. They say that English is a means of survival and a crucial factor in terms of national competitiveness. Given the country’s lower English speaking ability compared with the high education fervor, educating earlier would be more effective way, they claim. However, their arguments based on the global trends and education time have some flaws. Language is not only a communication method, but also represents one aspect of culture. From the cultural viewpoints, early foreign language education could cause problems such as the reckless acceptance of foreign cultures by children who are yet to recognize our traditional one. For examples, it may expose children to unconscious yearning for foreign cultures, bringing therm into the illusion of Western superiority. In this regards, it is clear that ‘How to teach’ approach is more relevant for proper English education than ‘When to start’ problem. Therefore, the focus of the current English education should be shifted from memorization or Q&A approach to communication skills approach. For this, it needs, for examples, more emphasis on conversation than structure and opening of ‘Only English speaking’ class and so on. Moreover, the government needs to improve language lab facilities through aggressive investments and apply strict qualification requirements for English teachers. This means innovation in the way of English education. Language is not only a communication method but also a part of culture. The solution to fluent English education without hurting our cultural identity can be found in methodology problem rather than the focus of early education.

Incredible

A few weeks ago, I borrowed a DVD from English language and culture department office in my university. That DVD name is ‘incredible’, and it’s an animation genre. I didn’t like the genre before I watched the animaiton, because I couldn’t find amusement from the genre even though other people hold burst their sides with laughing. However, incredible is a movie that is fun to watch. If someone doesn’t  watch it until now, I recommend that.  Of course I was also recommended by my friend. The plot of this animation is hero story. The movie that is just deal with not a hero but the hero family is very simple. Some words of main characters are humorous and fabulous style, even their expression face. I came up with a thinking that children who like to watch the animation like this absolutely have a pure heart and cheerful by nature. That mean, I can also forget some complex worries about my presant life during watching the movie.  There are a lot of moral and educational movies in the world, but I think sometimes pleasant films without some serious stuff give real aims to us.

Summer Vacation

I always make up my mind to spend a great vacation at the end of this term in university in front of vacation. Especially, this summer vacation means very special and important to me. Maybe it’s possible to notice the public invitation for employment in my interesting field company during this summer season. Also, this summer is my final vacation as a student. I think that the period of about 3 months in vacation is not short. Now, I have not only have a meeting for job interview but also I take a part-time job in an institute for every weekends. During summer vacation, I’ll keep these things continually. I’d like to learn various things what I’m interested in summer vacation. I learned a sigh languege a few months ago, so I want to know about it more professionally. Also, I’ll learn another exercise except swimming. From as a kid, I have concerned about play tennis, Jazz dance and skuba diving, so I’ll choose from these things. Of course I have to study English especially speaking skill and TOEIC even though the test haven’t an influence of my graduation from university and finding a job any more. Frankly, most people who stay with me have higher score than me, I realized that I am ashamed of myself. I really want to get better marks. In addition, there is a necessary thing to improve my ability, that is reading good books. To set a plan is always made me having a throb in my heart with expectation.

Finding a job

I have been meeting with some people who dream forward same job after graduation from university every weekends. Every that time, we practice the job interview. The form of the interview is composed of grouping. Two or three persons play a role of applicants, and the others ask some questions as employers. It’s very tough things for me to play it with umfamiliar people at the first time, but now I think that such a preparation is very useful thing especially to seniors. Besides, the more interesting is that the meeting with people who has a job of same field like what I want to do is really great. I can get more valuable information about my interesting job by talking with them, as well as we give and take much more concerns, comfort and confidence owing to same goal.

One of the members talked about her another job, now she has beed working a company since graduation from university at the same time she’re preparing the job what she really want to do. Some problems about between employer and employee, and very tired busy work schedule etc. oppress her mind. During the time when I heard about her experience and thinking, I realized that it seems to be just my work. Sometimes, I’m worried about the troubles, but to tell the truth, now I really want to get my job.

English book

My younger sister bought a english book, “50 English”. A writer of this book insisted that let learn by heart 50 sentences. He said that you can speak english, if you only memorize 50 sentences, but you learn by heart 50 sentences clear. That is, you fluently has to speak 50 sentences. He explained that 50 sentences of this book are very important, because it has the basic structure. So he wrote five stages to memorize 50 sentences effectively. The five stages divide starting stage, habit stage, application stage, practice stage, and adaption stage. I think this ways are partly useful, but this ways are not perfect, because it is rote learning. Of course, rote learning is very important. However, I think only rote learning can’t develop english ability.

She is also a senior in her university, so we hardly ever get togerther with each other because of busy schedule this term. we have always not only same thinking but also similar appearance since high school student. However, we have different major as well as some interests at present. Even though now we haven’t look alike anymore, I felt peaceful and comfortable atmosphere with her at that time, on the other hand, I could true think over what we have done by touching with her. She is really a diligent and energetic person. She can speak English fluently although her major doesn’t related to English. During we have a meal, suddenly she answered the phone with English. To tell the truth, I felt that ‘how miserable I am.’ by realizing myself that I was envious of her. Although every person has each special talents, a full of efforts make the person successful. I reviewed myself with this as a turning point. I’m relly enjoying studing English, but I can’t speak confidently about my efforts. One of the most difficult things is to control myself.

It took only about 1 hour because that is just a simple practical exam. Even though I had not any special meeting plans that day, I didn’t want to go back my home straightly. Seasonly, there was a call to me. My x-boyfriend asked me to have a date with me. He and I have been keeping in touch with each other from one year later since we broke up. We spent a great time during have a meal and hang out on the street(Insa-dong). Thanks to it’s been a long time to know him, I felt a full of comfotable mind. I’m satisfied with the fact that we can get long with each other as a real friend. Truely, I was pleased with his saying that he happened to have a girl friend a few days ago. Throughout today meeting with him, I realized that I can be his real friend.

Hot weather makes many skin troubles. I heard that milk and green tea is very good for skin. First, milk put in the cup. And then the make up cottons put in the cup. The cup put in a refrigerator for 1~2 hours. After 1~2 hours, the make up cottons put on your face for 10~20 minutes. It has to do at night, because milk includes a oil component. It gives whitening and removal of horny substance effects. The green tea also has these effects. In green tea case, first of all, green tea pack put in warm water for 1~2 minutes. And you wash your face 20~30 times. After I heard it, I did two ways all. I felt that milk is better than green tea to me, because I have dry skin.
