When I went to department store I visited Polo shop and I picked up a shirt.

Do you guess how much it was?? 1790000won!! I droped it. -_-;; 

Why just “A shirt” price is soooooooooo expensive??

Becuase it was “Polo” shrit?? 

Despite it was tooooo expensive but I wanted it.

Why? why I wanted that shrit? it was as same design with cheaper cloths.

I think beause of only “Polo”mark. Poeple think when they dress expensive brand cloths others look them more higher and important and also themselves have self-confidence.

Do you guys know Neil Boorman? He wrote “Bonfire of the Brands.”

He bonfire all of his brand goods and he confess he is brand addictor.

And he said if you buy brand goods for show off other people you are brand addictor.  because that goods are maybe actually don’t need to you. And also he said even if you dress that kinds of brand cloth your value is not higer than now.

 But why we want expensive brand goods? Why they are look great?

Do you know the bestseller book, ‘secret’? I have read the book. I believe you have already read this book or heard about the book once at least. This book deals with interesting secrets about our lives. Therefore, I want to introduce this book and relations between the Bible and this one.

           First of all, in a word, what the author wants to say is that whatever we wish and think comes true in reality of our lives. You probably wonder what it means. She says that if we focus on the wealth, we are becoming wealthier, and positive thinking about health condition brings healthy body and mind. Her saying in this book is simple and looks proper. However, in fact, we are likely to think of negative things, and as a result, bring bad thing ourselves in consequence of negative thinking. I believe this simple teaching makes you live better lives.

           Furthermore, his book has common features with Bible. If you have knowledge of Bible, you can recognize this fact. For example, if you want to receive something, you can follow three steps. First, asking for what you want, then believe, and receive that. She also says that those steps come from Bible. Except those things, you can find many similarities with the Bible. However, there is a different point of view between them. While Bible is focused on God as main body of doing something, this book concentrated on human. If you read the book, ‘Your Best Life Now’ by Joel Osteen, it will be helpful to understand what I have mentioned above.

           How about read this book? This book is attractive to reader because better life is what all people in the world really want. I believe this reason also contributes this book to be one of the bestseller. Think positively and act as one’s dream comes true. Finally, I want to give this message to you and myself.

   Have you ever heard of this word? It’s generally known as Golden Miss in Korea and the number of alpha girls is tending upwards. As a woman who wishes to be one of them, I would like to write something down about it.  

   Alpha girls are so-called women who have high educational backgrounds and afford to do anything they want. They usually don’t get married and live alone enjoying their gorgeous lives. Moreover, their common interests are fashion, beauty, and cosmetic and leisure activities. At first, I thought they are pathetic because it seemed like an excuse to me for not being able to find perfect men for them. However, as time goes by and I’m getting older, I believe that being an alpha girl is pretty much cool and is exactly what I want to be.   

   First, they can enjoy and work without any responsibilities about husbands and kids. It’s not quite surprising that many of women especially in Korea stop working after getting married and too busy with the care of their families to spend some time for themselves. They can whatever sports they want to do and go wherever they want to go which they would’ve never had chances to do if they just get married. Moreover, they also can work as much as they want and that will give them wealth as well as good position in their workplace.   

   Second, they have power over men. I believe that the only reason why men have more authorities in society is because they make more money than women. However, it doesn’t apply to alpha girls because a lot of these qualified women earn much more fortune than any other men. They even can speak up on certain issues and insist their opinion against men.   

   Women have to be competent for special areas in order to enjoy our lives and not to be controlled by men. An age of patriarchy and gender discrimination has gone and it’s time for women to speak their voice up. To do so, being an alpha girl can be one of alternatives.

Few days ago, I got a mail named “Your identification number has been used!” from the security site www.siren**.co.kr. After visiting the page, I knew that they send me a e-mail to let me know my personal information was used somewhere on the internet. With half curiosity, I registered the site and approved for the monthly pay for that (900 Won/month). Then I can confirm every web page that I’ve ever registered so far. I can visit suspicious site and decide to continue or quit. It wasn’t hundred percent perfect though. 

It was a big issue that an internet shopping mall leaked out the information of their customers. Personal information is easy to access these days. We often write down about ourselves anywhere we want to see and get. We should, however, heed concerning the individual security. The EULA should be read before registering and you have to judge the safety. Besides, your information could be the main source of spam.

Beware, we can be the easiest target.

Today, when I wanted to check my e-mail, it was difficult to enter my e-mail box, because a certain advertisement appeared repeatedly. It was very annoying to me. At that time, I thought it would be just one time but whenever, I draw my mouse to click my e-mail box, the advertisement interrupted me so it made me annoyed. Especially, even though I had to hurry up to check e-mail, I could not open. Sometimes, the media make me feel bad.

I thought about the relation between media and daily life before write this diary. And I brought one movie to mind.
It is ‘The Truman Show’.

Truman is the hero of this movie and the other drama in movie. In “The Truman Show”, the actor Jim Carrey plays the hero. In the movie, He live in the manipulated world. But, He don’t know about it.
So, His private life is opened to the public without his any permission.
And in the movie, Peoples never feel guilty about it. They enjoy watching Truman’s life.

After Truman knew that All the thing is show, He strive to escape this situation and find himself.
But, It’s very difficult.

In my opinion, This movie is showed media’s danger. When I saw this movie, I felt Truman is miserable and poor character.
Nowadays, Many people want more exciting media. So, Broadcasting emphasize sex-appealing and violence more and more. I think this phenomenon is incorrect. And many people fall under the control of media without awareness.

Program’s popularity is important. But, broadcasting’s right information transmission also important. We have a right about it. So, We should feel owner consciousness.

I watched a video clip in youtube . In the clip , a man came out of the closet. and said “If you are gay, you don’t need to hide your homosexuality.

I was surprised of his brave. I think even though  it is America, still the society is   not generous to gays or lesbians .That’s why many gays  live  without showing their homosexuality openly, I think. So the man in the clip I found  must have expected negative responses of people who will see his clip But he did came out of closet through Youtobe with brave

I saw a movie named Fur : An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus yesterday. It was a movie about one photographer who found her identity through communicating with a man who has hypertrichosis. That man is described mysterious because he tries to hide himself from the society for avoiding discriminations. Diane, the main character, didn’t know what she want but after she met him, she changed greatly and finally found her identity as a photographer.

The movie was very fascinating and heart touching but one thing disturbed me very much throughout the movie. It was the subtitle that wives are speaking honorific to their husbands but no husbands do that. Why the subtitle translator translated like that?

Considering that it’s very recent movie the subtitle translator won’t be old fashioned person who insists wives have to use honorific to their husbands. In Korea, nowadays, wives don’t use honorific to their husbands unless they decided to use honorific to each other or they have great gap in age. Therefore I guess using honorific to husbands has intention.

Actually it’s very easy to find a clue of that intention through the movie. It’s social background is 1930s when social position of women was much lower than now. I guess the translator intended to reflect the low position of women in their couple relationship.

However, still I can’t accept that idea because there isn’t honorific in English like in Korean. I think there can be different culture of communicating in western countries that we don’t know and if there is, this kind of translating missed cultural differences.

I agree that by only wives using honorific, it could show us the situation very effectively; it’s very natural in Korean context. However, we have to be careful in understanding other culture because misunderstanding of culture can causes little or big problems.

Hacker breaks into Daum’s system

   The nation’s second-largest internet portal Daum was attacked by a professional hacker in July, the police said yesterday, revealing loopholes in the firm’s security system.

   The hacker, who was only identified by his surname Shin, broke into the portal’s customer consulting system which allegedly contains personal information of customers such as their names and citizen registration numbers.

   The internet firm subsequently asked 7,000 members to change their id and password without informing them of the incident.

   Daum said in a statement that it kept the incident under wraps for eight months due to concerns that the suspect will disclose the information that he obtained. The company said it found no evidence that the suspect gained access to its server and customer database.

   It also enhanced its security system to fill the hacking loopholes.

   Shin threatened to sell the personal information, demanding tens of millions of won. The police are still seeking Shin’s whereabouts.

   When I first read this article about 3 days ago, I thought this could be a good material for our class. I found two things to think about in this article – one is what the hacker did after hacking and the other is what company did when they knew about hacking. I guess it’s rather different from what we’ve learned.

   First, hacker threatened a firm and demanded money, which looks a little different from other hackers that we’ve covered in class. “Hacker Crackdown” said that the purposes of hacking are to learn something, to show off, to warn or for fun. For that reason, I reached the conclusion that the objectives of hackers are changing as time goes by and technology develops. This idea can be supported by many other hackers who ask for money after they hack individual homepages of famous celebrities.

   Second, a company didn’t publicize the fact their portal site had been hacked. It could have been dangerous because many people didn’t care the notice that a firm posted including me. Even though the company worried about customers’ information which would be opened to the general public if they let people know, they definitely should’ve told us.

   In my opinion, we need to talk about both the definition and purpose of hackers and what company should do related to publicity and secrecy. What do you think?

      These days many criminal movies that a lot of people are crazy about are released and the number of merciless crimes that is reported by media are increasing. Do you think the movies and real crimes are irrelevant? Some of you might think so but I don’t.

      Whenever I see movies about serial killer who murders a lot of people cruelly, I am quite worried about the possibilities of happening similar crimes with similar techniques. That can instigate potential criminals to commit a crime or provide them of new ideas about how to kill people. We can also find that the murder of two elementary school girls is quite similar with “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” in the point of techniques and motives. Both murderers chopped off the victims without any reason. That surely makes us creepy. Even though there are many movies based on the real stories it’s also true that this kind of movies are inciting to more heartless crimes.

      At this point, I want to ask you meaningless questions. What are these movies for? Is it for the people who want to kill someone but have no idea how to do it? Or is it for the public people who just enjoying watching this sort of movies? Whatever it is, that doesn’t help anyone. We should think how serious crimes these movies can cause and if it’s possible, I think we’d better stop manufacturing cruel criminal movies. Movies which make human life worthless and valueless must not be produced anymore. There are already too many victims who have been sacrificed.
