comic books
Mr. Gord~
Do U like comic books? I love comic books~♡ What kind of comic books do u like?
I start to read the comic book when I was 11 years old. I think I read “dragonball” first.
I had been crazy for comic books until I was high school student. So I didn’t study at all and my grade was so bad. I think my mom doesn’t want me to read comic books now and forever.^^;
I can’t stop reading comic books forever.!!!
But I can’t read books well because there is no 책방 nearby my home.ㅠㅠ
Yes, I like some comic books, but actually, I don’t read them as much as some of my friends.
The comic books I have enjoyed are: Watchmen, Superman: Red Son, Maus, Same Difference and Other Stories by Derek Kirk Kim, Akira, some of Dave Sim’s Cerebus comics, some of Neil Gaiman’s comics (like Sandman, Death, and Violent Cases).
These are very different from the comics I read when I was a little boy, however. When I was young, I couldn’t buy comics because I lived in a small town in the far north, so the only things I could find were in the library. They were mostly tattered old comic books full of scary ghost stories and monsters, and most of the stories reminded me of the old black-and-white TV show The Twilight Zone.
Anyway, these days I’ve just started reading comics again, and I want to read more of Dave Sim’s comics, and the Hellboy series, but there’s a problem: you might have trouble getting comic books, but not as much trouble as I have! English comic books are very hard to find in Korea, and ordering them is a little expensive. So for right now, the only comic book I am reading is one by Kangpull and it’s called “Soonjung Manhwa”. It’s pretty easy-to-read, but I have a feeling it’s more popular among women than among men.
So what is your favorite comic book series?
By the way, when you write on this blog, try to find an English word to express the Korean word, even if you aren’t sure about the English word. For example, chek means “book”. So chek bang is “book room”, right? But in English, we’d probably call it a “comic book shop”, even if comic book shops in Korea are a little different from comic book shops in the West. We have to BUY the comic books in a Western comic book shop, where I think in a Korean comic book shop you can just pay a small fee to read the book, right? (Also, I don’t know the difference between a chek bang and a manhwa bang, could you explain this?)
Also, stay away from smilies! They’re too cute!
