Welcome to Understanding Anglophone Culture(s), Spring 2011!
Welcome back to school!
This is the page for the Understanding Anglophone Cultures course (officially, and awkwardly, known as “Understanding Culture in English-Speaking Countries”) for Spring 2011, taught by Gord Sellar. We are scheduled to meet on Tuesday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm, and Thursdays from 11:00am-12:00pm, in M309.
(I have not announced office hours yet — check here for an update — but it is likely I will be in my office Tuesday and Thursday afternoons; given the fact we begin so early, and finish at lunch time, if you want to talk before or after class you will need to make an appointment with me, or arrange something with me at the end of class.)
Here is our syllabus (still subject to some revision for the next week or so):
… and the student information sheet I will hand out on our first day:
Right-click and save these files to download them to your computer. Be sure to fill out the student information sheet as directed, and to read the syllabus carefully before our second class, so that you understand what you’re getting yourself into by taking this course.
These files are in PDF format, and you can open them with either the Adobe Acrobat Reader, or with the alternative PDF reader Foxit (download it here).
We will make some use of Google Docs for submitting peer and self-evaluations, conducting polls, and so on. I therefore encourage you to create a Google account if you do not already have one; since class announcements will go out using the same Google Accounts, I also recommend that you set up your Google mail account to forward to your regular email account.
I will ask you to fill out a class information poll in a week or two, when our class list has stabilized somewhat. Welcome to the class, and I look forward to a great semester with you.
